Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Chloe Bennet has been cast on Joss Whedon's wildly anticipated upcoming S.H.I.E.L.D. pilot.

The actress - currently appearing on Nashville as Hailey - will portray Skye, described by The Hollywood Reporter as a "confident woman who is slightly obsessed with superhero culture and the shadow organizations that exist within it."

The character is also outlined as edgy and "unflappable" in nature.

Bennet is considered to be the final series regular for a show that will be based on the iconic Marvel franchise and whose pilot will be penned by Whedon, among others.

She joins a cast that includes:

• Ming-Na as Agent Melinda May
• Clark Gregg as Agent Phil Coulson
• Brett Dalton as Agent Grant Ward
• Elizabeth Henstridge as Agent Gemma Simmons 
• Ian De Caestecker as Agent Leo Fitz.
