TNT Cancels Leverage, Sets Series Finale for Christmas Night

by at . Comments

It won't be the sort of merry Christmas Leverage fans were hoping for: TNT has made the announcement that this Tuesday's Season 5 finale of the Timothy Hutton-anchored hit will serve as a series finale.

Nate Leaves Parker Behind

Said a network rep via statement:

Leverage has thrilled audiences with its delightfully intricate plots, its stand up for the little guy attitude and its terrific performances
from stars Timothy Hutton, Gina Bellman, Christian Kane, Beth Riesgraf and Aldis Hodge. But after five wonderful years, it’s time to say goodbye. Leverage will come to a close on Christmas at 9 pm, with a series finale that stands as one of the show’s best episodes… We want to thank the passionately devoted fans… who have been the driving force behind its success.”

The cancelation does not come as a shock to creator Dean Devlin.

In an exclusive TV Fanatic interview, Devlin discussed the possible end of this era and how he framed the upcoming episode to serve as a series finale if need be.

Tune in to "The Long Goodbye Job" at 10/9c on December 25 and visit TV Fanatic soon afterward for our extensive review.

I am truly saddened by this news. I really loved this show and it was my favorite. The chemistry between the characters were amazing and every episode made me love them more.

I will miss this show. The cast is fantastic. The good shows are cancelled while lesser shows remain. Why? Please consider bringing them back, please...

A shame - not particularly deep, but a fun watch. And recent episodes have delved deeper into the characters.

As I've said before, better to go out on top.

I figured it was going to happen but it doesn't change the fact that I'm bummed. I absolutely adored the show beyond words. It was one of the only shows that kept me smiling and made me feel good while watching. The cast and writing was nothing short of incredible. I'm so grateful that we'll get the closure...I just wish we didn't need it this soon. They had a nice run. The eclectic bunch of characters and writing stole my heart.

Pity, this show's a mile smarter than most other programming. Just goes to show, lowest common denominator is all networks want to see now, and I refuse to watch most of it. Really frees up my spare time.

Gosh I knew this was going to happen soon but I didn't know it would be this soon :( I hope that we get some good closure from this episode and that it serves justice to such an amazing show. Leverage team, you've stolen many things over these past 5 seasons but I think the most important thing you stole was my heart.

I knew this was a possibility but I hoped it never would of happened. This is a great show with a great cast and I will miss them. I am sad the show is ending but I'm glad we will get a real series finale without any cliff hangers and all are questions will be answered. I'm so glad it woulnt be like some shows were they were planning on another season so they don't end the last episode the right way they end it with a giant cliffhanger and then you never know what happened next. I can't wait to watch the last episode on Christmas I wouldn't miss it for anything. I love this show its one of the best I've seen.

ridiculous that good shows like this get canned and the crap reality shows get to survive. surely any other US/UK channel would pick this up??
