Grey's Anatomy Review: Tears, Fears and Goodbye

at . Comments

Welcome back, Grey’s Anatomy fan! After an entirely too long hiatus, the docs from Seattle returned with "Things We Said Today," an episode that brought it all:tears, fear, smiles, and laughter.

Let’s discuss now that I have wiped my eyes enough to see...

Happily Ever After...or For Five Minute Increments. The hour picked up right where “Run, Baby, Run” left off. Bailey went to the hospital instead of her wedding to operate on Adele. Would Ben understand being left at the alter? Of course he would, because he is pretty awesome. The wedding is put on hold until Bailey finishes surgery.

April and Shane

Can we acknowledge for a minute the heartfelt conversation between these two? They understand and are there for each other and there is nothing us loyal viewers want more than Bailey to be happy. The two shared a beautiful wedding and Chandra Wilson has never looked more gorgeous.

Fake Crying = Hilarious. Jo and Alex bonded over their terrible childhoods and even found a way to have fun with each other. These two practice their crying skills and get silly drunk. It is about time we saw Alex laugh again. It has been entirely too long. These two have the build up for what could be an incredible couple. Let’s hope the writers go there and in a very real way. Karev deserves it.

Not Ready...Arizona and Callie have been off beat since the plane crash - and for a good reason. Arizona’s life has completely changed and she has earned the right to be insecure. Looks like there is no reason to worry. By the end of the hour, this pair was back on solid ground. Thankfully.

Signed, Sealed and Delivered. The divorce papers made their way into the hands of Owen and Cristina. Should they divorce? Should they have ever been married in the first place? Who really knows the answer anymore. These two have been an adventure to watch from the get go. But the writing has been on the wall for quite some time. They box each other in with their marriage.

Without that binding, they seem to do okay. With some tears from both Owen and Yang, (yes, I said Yang!), the papers are signed and their marriage is over. Here come the waterworks.

O. Hunt in Action

A Major Loss. We knew it was coming. It had to be sometime soon. That didn’t mean we wanted it. Adele survived Bailey and Mer’s surgery to be able to wake up and be lucid enough to remember her best friend, her husband. The two shared a sweet moment where he promised not to leave her. Not long after, Webber showed up at Bailey’s wedding. Nothing needed to be uttered. His face said it all and that is when the tears start flowing.

The loss of Adele Webber is huge. Loretta Devine has been playing this role to perfection from the start of the series and she will seriously be missed.

Side Notes:

  • The weekly case was a lot of fun. Some of those injuries were nasty but paid off watching Stewart get brought into the club.
  • Jackson and Stephanie hooked up! I’m not jealous of her or anything...
  • What will that do to his situation with April?
  • Derek is recovering from surgery.
  • Not sure which relationship I love more...Webber and Bailey or Webber and Mer.

Only Shonda can make you be so happy and smile and then be in tears within seconds. The episode was up to par of early seasons of the series. The entire Grey's Anatomy cast was awesome and the writing was exactly what we expect from this show.

What did you think of “Things We Said Today?” Are you happy Bailey married Ben? How sad is the loss of Adele? Sound off below and let us know. Check out some sweet lines on the Grey's Anatomy quotes page and don’t forget to check out the Grey’s Anatomy Round Table later in the week.

Until next time, Grey’s fans.

What an emotional episode... at the end I didn't realize Adele had died. Figured she had to die eventually, but after her surgery went okay I thought she was out of the woods for now. These are the most emotional episodes Grey's did, when the surgery went good and then they surprise you and the patient dies anyway. I liked Alex and Jo tonight, they're growing on me. I like the fact that they're not rushing it. They started out hating each other, but now they'rs becoming friends. That's the only way Alex will open up to her. I have hated all the relationships he had since Izzie (Lexie, Lucy...). This is the first one I truly enjoy. As for the others, I really hated Stefanie and Jackson, I agree they have no chemistry. I like April and Jackson together. I wouldn't mind thought and April/Shane relationship in the mean time. Until Jackson realizes he belongs with April and finally fight for her. I believe that is what she expected from him. She probably thought he only wanted to marry her because they thought she was pregnant. These two need to be with other people before they realise how they feel about each other. So far, I like where all of this is going with the interns.

I loved the episode! Though it had many sad moments, the general feeling was kind of heartwarming. I enjoyed the interaction between all the couples Ben&Bailey, Calzona, DerMer.Richard&Adele and Cristina&Owen had heartbreakingly beautiful scenes. I even started liking Jo with Alex.
But i hate Avery with Stephanie... First of all her transition was kind of abrupt (and i don't mean just her appearance...i mean her behavior also). They could at least have given them some ''knowing each other'' scenes first. I kind of hope that April and Shane will try going down that road. I am all for Japril, but till then... April and Shane do have chemistry and a relationship between them could affect in a good way her dynamics with Jackson.

It was heartbreaking to watch Richard in this episode...And yes, it is very difficult to choose between Bailey and Webber or Webber and Meredith..Wonderful episode. Adele Webber will be missed.

"But I'm fuming that Jackson and Stephanie hooked up!!! :( nooooo! What about April!!" Right there with you Roxx!! Nooooo....

I'm so very sad to see Adele pass away. I'll always remember when she and Richard sang My Funny Valentine during that one episode. Still not finding out what is doing with Derek's hand. Just saw him in bed. Is he healing or what? Can't wait for next week!!

Spindae 2o

an amazing episode all star GA style!
Bailey's speech with Ben, so beautiful. So honest and loveable.
Xtina, Alex and Avery where on the top of their game. hilarious. and the male intern hahahahhahaha.
Weber and Grey were amazing as well.
I loved the Calzona development. . .

Not enough of Patrick Dempsey for me. But Karev was hilarious. Not crazy about all the inturns. Sorry to see Adell leave as a character. She was grossly underused. Her character in the first two seasons was great.
And Grey's Anatomy won People's Choice Award for Best TV Drama, not Scandal. Shonda just said in an interview with Oprah that she's taking back the show (Grey's) from the fans. Maybe she might want to rethink that.

I'm sorry, but to hell with Jackson and April! Jackson and Stephanie have more chemistry than any other relationship Jackson has had on the show. I may seem bias as I've never been a fan of Jackson and April, but with ALL of the interns now have series regular options on their contracts, it won't shock me if Jackson and Stephanie continue, while Shane and April pursue something.
As for the wedding, I knew it would eventually work out in the end. Everything else also played out as I expected, except for Jo and Alex. Though I'm still not a fan of her, I did see the chemistry between Alex and Jo. However, I hope they take it slow and don't rush it. Every relationship Alex has been in has been rushed, excluding crazy Rebecca though. That was just crazy.
As for Adele, I'm heartbroken! I knew she had died when Webber showed up at the wedding. I love his and Mer and his and Bailey's relationship. Hopefully the death of Adele aids the writers in giving Richard more screen time.

The song at the end of the episode is "kiss me" by Ed Sheeran
