@ Waseemayob The reason The Mentalist is not on is A) Superbowl, and B) the 55th Grammy Awards on 10 February.

oh and forgot to mention 5*2
of course it was Jane's subconscious talking so when he said (his daughter) shes cute, you two ever?", well no comment.. and when she asks if someone knows who he really is, he says Lisbon.. and calls her belladona.. at least he thinks she's beautiful. also when he saw her in the bride's maid dress.. cute moment.

hi Entwife!
oh I didnt know Simon had back problems, hope it's not too bad!
I think he definitely deserves a good place in hollywood, he's such a good actor and he's really sexy, to me far more than Brad pitt or any of these actors. and I believe more and more people are seeing that too. Also I guess what we like about him is that he's humble. that makes it all!

Hi @Mimi. My understanding of doing ads and commercials is that they are the most lucrative activity, for time spent, in the business. Just what I've heard for years. Lots of continuing income while they're showing. And if he chooses the right campaigns like @huisclothes was saying. I do have to say, after looking at the Longines ads, my first thoughts were wow, these are good for his glamor image, makes him look like leading man material, good move, could lead to some big movie parts. First thoughts, honest. Haven't seen the Givenchy stuff. I too ope he doesn't overdo it or trivialize himself.

Wow, I did not know all that about Simon's back, @bonaduz and @rationalgal. I sure hope he's well physically. Otherwise I could be reading too much (who, me?) into his subdued, preoccupied manner. I choose to think it's purposeful since they could still have a very talkative and mentally animated Jane, even if he wasn't physically bouncing around. Now, come to think of it, he's done quite a bit of running this season, maybe the last was the final Volker episode just before this one? Anyway, thanks @bonaduz for chiming in to confirm you've noticed something's up with Jane, too.

well im not worried for simon, even if the Mentalist stops he wont be living on the streets! he must have saved so much money with it and the movies he's done aside. he doesn't seem to be the type to waste his money either so.. I mean can you imagine 400k for one episode?
it's more for us I'm worried lol, what are we going to do without it if it ends LOL hopefully he'll be offered sthg new.
I think Simon must be a little fed up with it too at this point. I believe after five years he must want to try and do sthg new and I have absolutely no doubt that he'll have so many offers he won't know what to do with them.

@Waseemayob The 3-week absence of The Mentalist infuriates me, too. It's been said here that this Sunday CBS is promoting their crappy show Elementary by showing it after the Superbowl instead of Mentalist. (Sherlock Holmes with a caretaker to keep him sober?????? Just hideous.) I don't know about the other two weeks. Stupidity maybe?
A couple more things about the Charlotte hallucination. The fact that it is his beloved daughter that is used to deliver the messages about Jane's feelings for Lisbon shows their great importance to his life. And she really didn't talk about much else, did she? Plus, it is the young adult Charlotte that gives these insights, not the child that Jane remembers. The feelings are maturing, ripening, not childish infatuation or dalliance.

@bonaduz just google the stuff. it'll come up. the french have done some tv spots for longine. they're harmless. just nice film of simon. sanyo australia and the bank spots - i saw them all on line. but brace yourself, the creative is hideous. this is one area i know a bit about and he needs better guidance in his choice of ads or he'll hurt his image.

Where do you see all these adds and spots? I guess I don't watch enough TV or read the right magazines! I live in Canada and Switzerland - maybe CTV and SRG don't show these commercials! Even though Longines is a Swiss Watch, LOL!

Thank you huisclothes! Yeah, that Dror Soref guy sounded kind of weird in the DVD commentary and the "Making of"! So he cheeted on some old folks - great! Glad that Simon wasn't involved. Also thank you for shareing your knowledge with us (well me) "not so informed ones"! Appriciated.

re: longine ads. liked the first print ad when he's in light jeans. great shot. this latest looks over-retouched to me. creatively, they're dull - "elegance is an attitude." never put something in an ad that you wouldn't say to someone in a conversation. elegance is an attitude? shallow puffery. he's signed to be the face of givenchy's new men's fragrance coming out in the spring. i hope he doesn't do anything embarrassing like brad pitt. the spots he did for sanyo were dreadful. him running around using all the products --once in a space suit. the spots for anzac (i think) bank? bad. he's half talking to other people, half talking to camera. all not even a tiny bit clever. he needs to do a cool ad. nike or volkswagen-level creative. he should be just as picky about what he's asked to perform as if it was a film. the right ad could help his career. he needs to avoid the advertising equivalent of wearing a pinky ring.

@bonaduz re: simon's back. he talked about it on letterman. turns out he broke his back years ago - probably as a teenager - and later had terrible sciatica - so that's how he found out he'd broken it. he had surgery.
haven't seen the video of not forgotten so haven't seen the director's commentary. i dvr-ed it. but dror soref, the director has been charged with fleecing many elderly investors out of the money they put into the film. sounds like they oversold shares (like the producers.) anyway, simon was not involved. but dror sounds like a very bad man.
one more point about adorable jane in season one. the show was on at nine. network standards would demand it be lighter. when they moved to ten, simon was happy because they had the latitude to go very dark.

@ bonaduz, He had the problem corrected with surgery. I think his character is ready to be done with Red John. I think the desire to let go and move on is increasing for Jane. And this is why his character is darker.

@rationalgal: I guess you refer to the director's comment of Not forgotten? The comment of the whole film was rather strange in my eyes. I guess they didn't like Mr. Baker a lot. One remark was also towards a scene where he (Baker) kicks at a door and that it was apparently not acted. The director said, that this was only one exampel of the many where Baker was "very agitated" during filming. Hey - I do (unfortunatly) not know Mr. Baker personally, but it still striked me as strange. He seems to be rather easygoing and open. But who knows? We all have our bad days, right? @entwife and @anitraward1: The difference between Jane's happy go lucky season 1 (that I'm watching right now) and season 5's quiet, reserved, withdrawn Jane is striking. DEFFINITLY somethin brewing in the man. Even his movements seem to be held back and sometimes stiff. (Maybe Mr. Baker has a physical problem?) @huisclothes should know that, I guess! Didn't he have some backproblems a while ago? Did he get that taken

Simon Baker seems to have always made his family his priority. His choice of what parts were based on making sure he could feed his family. TV gave him the opportunity to kiss his kids every night. But I would guess that he has impressed some people and he will have parts offered to him. The Mentalist came to him that way, and he just came off of Smith (that was canceled after three episodes). He seems to be a scraper. And, the money he has made from The Mentalist has freed him from the hand to mouth early years. I think a part of him looks forward to The Mentalist ending. If he worries or feels pain about cancellation, I'm inclined to think it is focused around finishing it to his standards. He has a movie coming out, the hope of getting "Breath" onto the big screen (good read, IMO), and endorsements. You all see him in the Longines ad. Lovely.

@anitraward1 think they're trying to give people a taste of elementary so they'll tune in on thursday. strange because i thought elementary was a big hit. but i guess they just want more. can't blame them, they have stockholders. but that doesn't stop me from hating their guts if they touch the mentalist.
i'm scared for simon. i want him to to use his triumph on the mentalist to build a film career -- what he really wants. harder to do it as the star of a canceled show. hard enough to be a tv guy (film people sneer at this) but a tv guy whose series has been canceled? he's going to be back to having to read for parts. he's had to do it his whole career. never got the role that catapulted him to the a-list. when asked about his success on the mentalist, at the premiere of "i give it a year," he said, "i'm grateful." not good news for us. he's steeling himself. innoculating himself from pain.
