@RedOktober, yes, naturally season declines over time, but viewers have increased from Season 3 and Season 4 as well as the demo, And your suggestion for the ratings declining because of the Abysmal love triangle is your own opinion and not a fact and can't be proven. And even worst you said Nikita and other shows are hogher rated then TVD, thats just a straight up lie, lol, stop spreading misinformation for your own agenda, TVD is highest rated show on the CW and has been since its premiere, not even arrow has beaten TVD once, the second highest rated show. TVD's demo is on average 1.2-1.6 and arrow is 1.0-1.4. TVD has decline for the first three seasons and not even the infinite number of rants and blogs on TVD can support your claims, facts is, viewers from the CW, the young audience is leaning towards watching Via online and DVR more and more every year.

Damon loves Elena selflessly, not Stefan (who has become a first-class jerk). It would be disappointing if they make her go back to Stefan when it's clear he only loves her partially, and not in totality. She's already slept with Damon, so sire bond or not, that's where she needs to stay. If she can't be with Damon, then she needs to be alone, instead of ping-ponging between Stefan and Damon.

Overall though, I like this episode. It may have taken compulsion, but it was nice that Rebekah made Elena and Stefan sit down and for once HONESTLY talk about their feelings, now if only Rebekah had made Stefan finally admit that he doesn't really care about Elena or her feelings anymore, it would have been perfect.

With each episode I'm becoming more and more convinced that Stefan isn't a loving boyfriend who just wants to grow old together with his girl and is really a clingy, jealousy driven, and controlling stalker that only wants to find the cure because he loves Elena only for whiny, clingy, weak, male dependent, token hostage, bratty child she was pre-vampirism, and can't learn to love her for stronger, more independent, and more grown up woman (in comparison) she's become post-vampirism, and this episode all but outright confirmed it.

This was basically a recap of everything that happened prior to this episode. I agree it was rather boring, in fact I caught myself rolling my eyes during the whole Rebecca interrogation scenes.... man, this show is really declining fast !! during the hiatus I rewatched season 2, and boy the quality of strong episodes is probably the highest in that season.
I can't see this show lasting very long anymore... I agree that this show desperately needs new villains asap !! .. I wish they would come up with something original like Teen Wolf did with the kanimite... I am finding myself bored with witches,vampires and werewolves..
also I would like to say that I still do not like the way the show opens !! in fact it's different than it was at the start of the season... every characters internal monologue is just stupid to me and I hate it.

I stopped watching this show early this season. As talented as Ian and Nina are, they are also my least favorite characters now. Gone is bad ass Damon, replaced by sniveling lover boy Damon. Gone is selfless, broken but fighting Elena, replaced by hurtful, self-centered Elena. I only enjoy Stefan, Klaus, and Caroline, but even their story lines have become contrived. I will watch the spin off, though, to see if there's any potential.

(which includes me) then the network suffers and the closer we get to cancellation!!! FACTS! This is exactly the same road Gossip Girl was going down, in terms of everyone losing interest and most people watching online and look what happened there.

To all those claiming that TVD ratings are fine. Please have your information ready and FACTUAL before you comment. The viewership IS on the decline and has been for some time. Let me give you guys actual numbers to work with. First season average viewership was 3.6 million, second season fell to 3.17 million and third season fell even more to 2.77 million. The most watched episode overall was actually the first episode of the FIRST season.....YES!!!! People have been losing interest in this show from the very beginning because of the weak writing and abysmal love triangle. It is not even the best performing CW show at the moment. Beauty and the Beast, Arrow and even Nikita are rated higher than TVD. And guess what, no one who promotes shows really thinks its ok that they are losing their live viewers to online viewership because when you watch online, unless its hulu, they lose the money that advertisements slots provide. I will always be Team Delena, but the show is sadly not worth watching anymore.
It's getting more boring with every episode. I'm only watching DE scenes on the internet.

Even though I agree about the whole lets sit down and chat is the most boring way to reveal some info, I am glad Elena finally expressed her feelings about how Stefan has been treating her since episode 2 of this season. He wants human Elena, and can't get passed that she has changed. Instead of accepting her, he kept wishing she would go back to who she was before she became a vampire. Go Klaus/Damon but I only say this because of Damon.

Ok, I liked this episode for a number of reasons. Stefan seemed to be on his way to moving on, elena told Damon she loved him, Tyler and Caroline seemed to grow farther apart, and professor shady pants got killed. They ruined it for me by having Stefan backtrack and profess that he will only know the truth when elena is human, Tyler and Caroline had a touching moment at the end, and professor shady pants came back to life! At least we can hold out hope for another naked Ian scene next week! Five stars for Elena's love confession!

@Whateva, im too lazy too pull up the numbers for you but your wrong. And Ian SOmerhalder has been on twitter expressing his concern on declining viewership since last year, not for S4. And no, the show hasnt lost a million viewer since lasy year, they actually gain viewers this year sice S3. from season 1 to 3 vampire diaries has always been on the decline but that's not from the fans losing interest in the show, because there no evidence to suggest that. The only evidence we have is the viewers are resorting to viewing the show Via online or DVR.

I check TVbythenumbers.com daily too and they have been decline because they haven't been wining their viewership slot, so they are down and these last few episodes have been down in live (not counting DVR's). Ian Somerhalder was recently on twitter saying TVD needed to get their numbers up.

Can we also point out how all these folks know Shane is using Bonnie and they ain't saying anything even though he could be brainwashing her to eff them up which I'm okay with as everybody except Kol, Tyler and Bonnie sucks (I would say Jeremy but he lost his not sucking ticket the moment he stop wanting to murder Elena).
This show is a sitcom now.
Also Julie said she wasn't sure if Daniel Gillies would want to work with her? I'm pretty sure he been offer a regular role since season 2 and not taking it, why would he want to shackle himself to satan's mistress.

This show has really dissapointed.It started off really good aand ended up a teen soap opera.Of course with added elements. I cant wait for the originals to air so I can watch a good show without all the crap thats in it now.I was once team delena, then I was team stelena.And now im team done!Its so ridiculous how they've ruined this show.

I used to really love this show. But it's become the Delena show and I can't be bothered to watch it anymore. I used to obviously love the vampire aspect of the show. But for me I loved the kind of true love and friendship always prevailed. Elena was a sweet, nice, respectful person who loved her family and friends and true love may have ups and downs. But now that she's slept with Damon. Sorry, it just ruined it for me. There is no happily ever after. Even if and I'm sure she will get back with Stefan it will NEVER be the same. I'll be looking for the Original's new show because as for this show I am not watching it. The ratings have and will show that I am not alone. People are slowing tuning out of this show. I'll never watch it again. Bye

Best part of the entire episode was Rebekah snapping Elena's neck! I was laughing too!
