It may have faced limited competition, but Chicago Fire will take all the good news it can get:

This NBC drama hit series highs in overall viewers and 18-49-year old viewers last night, drawing 8.4 million of the former and a 2.4 rating in the latter category.

CBS, meanwhile, aired a rerun of CSI; while ABC attempted to catch viewers up with a special Nashville rundown.

NBC also ran a new Law & Order: SVU, which celebrated Christmas a week early and improved 26 percent over its previous episode, drawing 7.75 million viewers.

Fresh episodes of Whitney and Guys with Kids helped NBC win the night overall, but its only new competition was a double-installment of Mobbed on Fox.
