Love LOVE this episode - knew immediately he was Castle's father - but we know virtually nothing about the background of that relationship (Castle's mom and dad) so would be interesting to see if we get more info in the future! All the performances were wonderful - I am keeping this ep so I can watch it again - so shocking to find out Alexis is the target and for such an obscure mysterious reason!! Oh well, had lots of fun - REALLY hope to see Castle's dad again really soon!!!!

I thought the two part program was great. But, I do hope this is not the last time we will see Castle's father. The show ended with us wanting more.

I loved the two parter, and agree with the reviewer that it should get awards for all the actors involved. I though Brolin did an excellent job of being Castle's taciturn spy father...it was rather Shakespearean, actually. I also loved Stana's Beckett getting seriously nasty with that perps girlfriend...she can be a serious bad-ass when needed.
I hope that we see more of Castle's dad, and I would love to see a reunion of him and Martha, and see how he reacts to seeing his grandchild in person! I bet they'd get along like a house on fire!
Great stuff, thanks to cast and crew!

This is the rest of my comment that was cut off:

...nods for acting, writing, etc. The critics and people who get to vote for those awards are in love with all the cable network (AMC, HBO, Showtime, FX) shows that don't always appeal to the masses and are given much more ground to be realistic (i.e. profanity, nudity, graphic violence) than a show like Castle. That's why the show seems to only get nominated in People's Choice or Satellite awards, which are okay, but in my opinion, distant cousins to the more prestigious ones.

It was a very good two-parter and ranks up there (as well as ties in nicely) with Pandora/Linchpin as the best. This one has more emotional appeal because of the reveal of Castle's dad while P/L was much more epic in scope.

Molly Quinn had stated on Twitter that she was in Paris filming for 5 days for these episodes, yet not too many scenes of her in the two-parter revealed her to be in Paris. Nathan Fillion was never in Paris filming, and the scene at the end where the two were running to the American embassy was actually Nathan's stand-in double. MQ stated as much.

I agree that it would have been better if Kate went with Castle to Paris as they are a team. She said as much at the end when they hugged that he never go alone again. She cares about Alexis, too.

As much as I agree with the majority of people about the show and stars deserving at least award noms, the reality is that very few network shows nowadays ever receive the more prestigious (Emmy, SAG, Golden Globe) award nods for acting, writing, etc.

The only problem I had with this episode is that you'd think Kate would have been a little more worried after hearing a gunshot destroying Castle's phone while she was talking to him.

Loved it, period. As an aside not many would notice, the copy of Casino Royale that Castle's father sent is (based on the dust cover) a first edition, first printing (UK). Fewer than 5000 copies were run, and are worth in the neighborhood of $80K if you can find one in mint condition. Not a bad gift, either time, from Dad.

Tinnean, it's TV, the stars never need to use the bathroom. Although it did cross my mind too. :)
Also, did I miss something along the way - GappyintheOcean thanked CBS. The show is on ABC.
Josie Leeds who commented about James Brolin being a has-been must be a twenty-something. He played Castle's father - how old would you have liked him to be? Brolin is age appropriate and still very good looking.

I loved the show and the suspense surrounding Alexis. I think the stars of this show are awesome and hope its stays around for many more years. the scenes between Kate and Rick and the progression of their relationship are sweet and touching.

A three week hiatus is a long time.

This was epic! I recommend awards to Nathan Fillion, Stana Katic and Molly Quinn. And, let's not forget Andrew Marlowe! This was an awesome two-parter! Just absolutely loved it!

It was good and I liked the story, but I was diapointed that Castle went on his own without Beckett. Usually they always rely on each other. I would have liked Castle to trust Beckett to help him.
