The Mentalist Review: The Alien Lizard Vibe

at . Comments

That nurse wasn't kidding. Agent Kirkland definitely has an alien lizard vibe to him. It's as if we spent "Behind the Red Curtain" waiting for him to rip off his mask and show what he was hiding underneath.

Rigsby is Thrilled

Though Jane has obviously had his suspicions of Kirkland, does he now know he's an agent of Red John? And, if so, can he convince Lisbon?

Kirkland injecting the IV almost made me feel sorry for Jason. The poor guy just woke up from a coma to remember being shot by Lorelei and then had his life snuffed out a moment later. He was still so weak and helpless from his injuries there was nothing he could have done to stop it.

Lisbon was the one who confused me in all of this. She seemed more than happy to hand their one link to Red John over to Kirkland. Was she that worried about her career? Was she actually not suspicious of the creepy federal agent? I was at a loss to the reasoning behind her apparent naivete.

But the best part of the entire episode was Jane enlisting LaRoche to help uncover the scheme of the nonexistent investor. It was awesome watching these two complex, quirky characters work together as Jane cajoled him in this The Mentalist quote

Jane: You spend your days chasing paperclip thieves. When do you ever get the chance to nail a killer? | permalink

If LaRoche isn't Red John (and I hope he's not), I'd love to see him help Patrick take him down and I beg the writers to give us more of these two in the future.

Jane seemed right at home at the theater. I'd guess that actors are a bit similar to carnie folk. They're all putting on some sort of a show.

Jane sitting in the back of the theater listening to Deandra sing was just so him. Lisbon walked right by him and never saw him there.

Deandra's story was downright heartbreaking. That her colleagues gossiped about her drinking while she was really suffering with multiple sclerosis was depressing. That she was reunited with her biological daughter only to have her permanently torn away over a silly financial scheme was tragic.

Lastly, the beautiful Grace Van Pelt was back at the CBI and it's been far too long. Now the question becomes: will Rigsby find the guts to make a play for her?

Were you surprised Kirkland took out Jason? Is Lisbon being naive and do you think Jane now knows that Kirkland works for Red John?

saw pics of shooting finale at venice beach carny emporium. robin looks lovely. i like her hair. swept back with an elegant little cootie garage up top. also don't recall her wearing pencil jeans (usually cigarette or boot cut). she looks great with her jacket and boots. perhaps this is the location where jane runs into his old psychic friend. many foot shots for entwife.

hi all. star of bruno heller's new drama series, the advocate, about a woman lawyer, mandy moore.

Hmmmm, @bonaduz. Let me see if there's something I can abridge a little bit . . .

Hi all!
@Entwife - would be reeeaaally interesting, to read one of your ff's! ;-D @Huisclothes - now, that's an interesting theory about K! Love it! You guys are hilarious. I can't believe what you come up with! Keep going :-) @Mimi - so you will write another ff? Awsome! Can't wait. @Watcher - remember Angels and Demons, where the killer cuts the scientists eye out and uses it to open the door? Exactly like Evil K did it with Good K! And now he carries the eye and the finger around with him in a little cooler baggie! Eeeeew!

Good point, @katempw!

Hard to make a murderous alien lizard creep into a good guy. Can't do it either @Entwife.

That last scene in the hospital is riveting. The way K tells Lennon he's a friend, rescuing him from a lifetime of being the plaything of monsters in prison. Very RJ minionesque. No matter what I do, I can't make Kirkland a good guy.

@huisclothes Re-looked at Jane and Kirkland in the hospital while Lennon is still comatose. Yeah, there's a look of a kind of delight on Jane's face towards the end of their conversation. K makes veiled accusation about Jane being there when Lorelei shot Lennon, glances again at Jane's dirty lapel, a put-down. When the camera goes to Patrick again, he has kind of a bemused but interested smile, he's looking Kirkland in the eye, studying him, knows it's total bs when K just told him he'll let him know if Lennon wakes up and has anything interesting to say. Big time information about K's tells when he's lying, I bet. Jane's first real interaction with him. Great scene.

@Watcher It would be very interesting if it turns out RJ and Jane knew each other in their youth and experimented or RJ developed his attachment to Jane at a young age. We have no information against it at this point. What a twist that would be!

Just watched the If It Bleeds It Leads scene where Kirkland comes into Lisbon's office and tells her to lay off Volker. Just says he's from HS, no title or anything. He's giving off that lizard vibe big time, everything about him is off. I can hear his speech difficulty and Christopher Walken hoarse phrasing even here, but it's more pronounced the next time we see him when Lisbon fluffs her hair. First he tells her to stop worrying about Volker; when she doesn't back down, he leaves it at take a step back; when she still comes back at him, he says how powerful Volker is politically; when she still puts it in his face, he makes a veiled threat of You just need to watch your step. Then asks to buy her a cup of coffee sometime. Creepezoid. Then he goes out in the hall and there's the famous meet and greet with Jane. Kirkland does say to Lisbon We don't know each other, seems to enjoy telling Jane But I know you.
