Veronica Mars Movie: It's a Go!

by at .  Updated at . Comments

Well, that was fast. And incredibly awesome.

Less than 11 hours after Rob Thomas and Kristen Bell asked fans to donate to Kickstarter in order to raise $2 million for a Veronica Mars movie to be filmed this summer, the goal was reached... and then some!

“My mind is blown," Thomas tells EW. "I’ve been fantasizing about this taking big and had to tell myself, ‘Stop it, Rob, you’re being silly. You’re setting yourself up for disappointment. And now today has exceeded the wildest pipe dream I let myself entertain. Holy cow. We better make a good movie. These amazing fans have stepped up. We better deliver.”

Adds Veronica herself:

“I knew Veronica Mars fans were cool, but I had no idea they could rally with such power. They are unstoppable — just like Veronica. I will have a permanent blush on my face, feeling so lucky to be associated with this entire thing."

With the $2 million in the bag, Warner Bros. Digital Distribution will now fulfill its commitment to produce the film, which will be based on the beloved UPN series that went off the air in 2007.

It will be released in 2007 and, with nothing known about the returning players or plot, allow us to simply say: it better star Max Greenfield as Leo!

I have high hopes but low expectations. I don't think filmic resurrections of dead TV shows often work out well.
