Castle Review: Here's to 100 More!

at . Comments

What a celebration!

"The Lives of Others” marked two events: Castle’s birthday and, even more importantly, the 100th episode of our favorite Monday night series. Let’s waste no more time and let's talk Castle, shall we?

A Bored Castle

Rear Window Castle is stuck in his apartment after messing up his knee skiing with Beckett. Strapped with boredom, he resorts to using binoculars and peeking in on his neighbors. After swearing that he witnessed a murder in the apartment across the alley, Castle goes on to drive everyone crazy. Alexis, Beckett, Ryan and Espo are all dragged into Castle’s antics.

Little did we know that Beckett had planned the most elaborate and best birthday ever for her man. Seriously, that was pretty much amazing. With the help of Martha and her acting students, Alexis and the binoculars, Ryan and Espo checking in on the case, even Gates working her way in...everything was perfect. Richard Castle is one lucky man.

An Affair To Kill On the real murder case the gang was working, an IRS agent is found dead after being reviewed on security footage. A wife was killed by her husband but he had it staged to cover up the affair he was having. Thanks to Castle’s vivid imagination, he even helped solve the case from his wheelchair.

Side Notes

  • How gorgeous did Kate look in that black dress? Seriously, stunning.
  • Castle wanting to be Charlie and the boys be his angels was hilarious. Especially after Ryan and Espo struck a pose. Priceless.
  • Welcome back, Alexis! It’s good to see you normal and functioning after your kidnapping adventure.
  • Where was Lanie at this fabulous party?

Deep into Season 5, Castle is still super entertaining and just as much fun, if not more, than it was in the beginning. This is not an easy task. Over the past one hundred episodes, we have witnessed shakeups in the office, relationships and breakups, death, kidnappings and the central couple coming together.

Most would think that this would be a recipe for disaster. But it hasn’t been at all. Bringing Castle and Beckett together has brought the series in a new direction. Although there have been ups and downs throughout the seasons, the series has hit a high mark, just in time to celebrate it’s 100th episode.

So now that we have hit the impressive 100 episode milestone, what do you think? Was “The Lives of Others” everything you expected for such a landmark hour? Sound off in the comments and let us know.

Also, take a look back at previous episodes and watch the build up to where we are now. Check out some pretty awesome Castle quotes from the hour and don’t forget to check back in a couple days for the weekly Castle Round Table. Until April 15, TV Fanatics...

That was by far the best episode ever! they totally had me fooled with the suprise party, It didn't cross my mind until becket got into that apartment and the lights went out. SO COOL. Beckett really knows how to throw a suprise party i can only wait and see whow castle is gonna get back at her :D

I got a big kick out of this episode. It was very creative and surprised most of us no doubt! The only caution - beware crying "wolf" one too many times as after a while no one believes you when you need them most... (Aw, that's just another prank by Beckett and the boys).

Did NOT see that one coming! Great episode, great fun and good use of each characters strengths. More than a little surprised that neither Lanie nor Gates were at the "party". Gates I can do without--Lanie, not so much. Most amazing thing? That many characters could keep from blowing it! Nice job, writers!

hello castle lovers
please don't drive me out of town, but this show is becoming one big bag of saccharine for me. i love beckett, espo and ryan but am sooooooooooo tired of castle. the same way i got soooooooo tired of patrick jane on the mentalist. their characters have no character.
ya all take care now.

I loved it! The episode was so greatly acted and executed I can´t even choose a moment I liked more! Loved it all! And yes, that´s how you celebrate a 100th:)

I agree with Greg Eckes and Rebecca. This disturbed me quite a bit, as a remarkably cruel and insensitive trick to play on a very sensitive man. It made for a great episode, but it still bothered me quite a lot. I would not have taken it well, had anyone done such a thing to me, especially after I had already seen that person die once (in the ambulance ...) That Castle took it that well appeared to me to be quite a struggle, and a conscious decision not to embarrass the woman he loved. That was a VERY long pause for thought. Still, I liked it, up until that point. Well-written episode. Excellently acted. The number of folks who are in on their "secret" is getting to be a little unnerving. How can Gates POSSIBLY not know?

And, and...the title is from a successful foreign film about spies doing surveillance on residents...and one of the characters is Mrs. DeWinter (from Daphne du Marier's "Rebecca") many clever references,I'm sure I missed half of them. I loved the whole thing. And I did not see the solution coming. Loved it. I saved it on my DVR to watch again.

Oh, and Lanie was at the party. The semi-flashed to her for a brief second & the. You can see Espo give her a kiss when Castle talks about the whole thing being staged.

This episode was fantastic in so many ways. Of course I am a huge Caskett fan so it was so nice to see them in a more domestic way. I loved the small tender moments. As someone who has seen every episode at least 5 times each I really appreciated this episode and that Marlowe wrote it for the hardcore fans like myself. I thought that Kate did go really far in making Castle think he was in real danger but it was his birthday, and April fools day so it had to be that way to make it thrilling and believable. Stana Katic is stunning physically and her work is also spectacular. Nathan Fillion has the best comedic timing and I will never get tired of his goofiness. I loved every minute of this episode. I love the dark action packed episodes but its nice to have a little bit of fluff every once in a while. Especially since this season finale and the episode "Still" are suppose to be very serious episodes! Thank you Castle cast, crew, and writers for giving me a reason to look forward to Mondays. And I will be happy with another 100 episodes!

@joyeful I completely agree with everything you said. As many times as these people have been in near death situations & only sometime mention it, I thought Beckett's fake stabbing was true to how all of the characters & this show has always been. She knows Castle & knows how to elicit various reactions from him & she knew that's what would have him barging through the door. I have no issue with the fact that Alexis' kidnapping still hasn't been mention or with Beckett's fake murder in this episode. It's been 5 season -that's just how the writers roll. It was a really fun and enjoyable 100th episode.
