Castle Review: The Billionaire's Kiss

by at . Comments

Well, let’s talk about that tension.

Castle aired "The Squab and the Quail" this week, an episode that centered on the attempted murder of a billionaire of whom Castle is jealous and who has quite the interest in a certain beautiful detective.

ABC made the right decision by rearranging “The Squab and the Quail” with “Still,” the installment originally intended to air this week. “Still” features an explosive situation, and in light of the recent tragic events in Boston, ABC flip-flopped the episodes. So there is a slight chance that background pieces between our favorite writer/detective duo could be out of order. We'll find out next Monday.

Ryan and Castle Scene

Watch What You Eat. The weekly murder mystery involved billionaire Eric Vaughn. There was an attempt to both poison and shoot him. Good thing the gorgeous Kate Beckett was on the scene to protect him.

This brought out the jealous side in Castle and I can’t say that I blame him. First, he hit on Kate, then he tried to kiss her. Boy better back up! I don’t really care about his accent or his stunning smile, he is no Richard Castle and Beckett knows that.

Although...there was a slight hesitation from Beckett when Vaughn questioned her relationship, as well as during the kiss. Beckett tried to ask the serious question to her man at the end of the hour. Where is this going? Doesn’t look like she got the answer she wanted.

Where is this relationship going? Things are serious. They spend the night with each other all the time. Is marriage in the cards for Caskett? Should it be?

Another theme that went throughout this installment was the idea that Castle takes advantage of Beckett. Does he? Sure, the man likes his video games, but I still wouldn't make such a classification. I mean, really, didn’t Beckett take advantage of his feelings for quite some time before they got together? Just saying.

Side Notes:

  • So did we know that Beckett is the youngest female detective in NYPD history? That’s what I’m talking about girl!
  • It’s always nice to see TV Veteran Ioan Gruffudd on our screen, especially since Ringer has gone off the air.
  • This episode was the first in a while where we saw all of the cast! What a welcome change!
  • How much fun are the boys when they are together?

Overall, a fun episode to lead us into the last few of the season. There were some great Castle quotes - especially from Espo. What did you think, TV Fanatics? Did you enjoy “The Squab and the Quail?"

Sound off in the comments and don’t forget to check back for the Castle Round Table later in the week.

LOVED Ryan's exit when the kiss discussion was happening!

We knew that Beckett was the youngest female to be promoted detective, in 'Rise' (Season 4 ep 1) Gates said that Beckett - when she reported to work after 3 month on disability - beat her Gates by 6 weeks.
There was a lack of continuity very apparent (because of airing episode 22 before 21), it appears to me that Gates (and maybe everyone who did not know before) knows that C&B are a couple (maybe this came out in Still). Seeing Gates facial expression when she said the Beckett had to stay at the presidential suite with Vaughn and Castle just walked out - prompted that belief to me.
Overall go episode, but will watch Still and re-watch this one afterwards then I believe that it will flow for me.

There were things I didn't like about this weeks episode.. but I think I'll wait til I see "Still" which comes before last nights..
Castle might take her for granted sometimes...but she does the same thing.. I think she does it more then he does. Espo & Ryan were awesome as usual. Espo had some really great lines!

I really liked the episode and I liked that Castle was so jealous. I think that the last episode of this year should have Castle asking Beckett to marry him and she should accept his proposal. I think their marriage would only make the show better.

CASTLE SHOWED WHAT A SELF-CENTERED MAN HE IS. IN LESS THAN SIX MONTHS, HE IS OBLIVIOUS TO HER FOR A GAME! THEN WHEN HE THINKS SHE IS FLATERED BY A HANSOM, RICH GUY, HE ACTS LIKE HE IS THE CONDECINDING MORLIST ABOUT HER UNSURE MOMENT ALTHOUGH HIS HEAD TURNS AT EVERY PRETTY SKIRT THAT LOOKS AT HIM AND HE ALWAYS CAN NEVER SAY NO TO THEIR ADVANCES.CASTLE IS THAT SPOILED SELFCENTERED CHILD. I THINK BECKETT WOULD DO BETTER TO DUMP HIM AND GO ON WITH HER LIFE.

For the entire episode I was hoping the culprit was indeed Eric and Castle was the hero for figuring it out.. Not realistic, I know.

I think the situation is more complicate as you said in the recap. I think Beckett is at a very vulnerable moment and Eric took this. I think she really had felling for him. I think she felt her relationship with Castle is in a death point and this is loosing the magic touch. Really, they have to talk about that. Castle also avoid to face that. Her face in the end of the chapter when he invite her to the room talk a lot, about how bad she felt in this moment about their relationship and Castle is avoiding this fact.

Now I know why Castle is not so good at relationships. He had 3 major gaffes last night in regard to being clueless when Kate was looking for some "you are extraordinary" moments. To be honest, I really don't understand why this relationship is being perceived as "complicated" by both Castle and Beckett. It should not be this difficult after waiting 4 years to be together.

Wow, Castle came off so immature and needy and I am not believing that what that guy said made her go into overdrive about "where are we going" to me it's out of character for Beckett to be in such a rush, they just started this and the fact that she was swooning on the other guy - why would she want to define this relationship, that sounds more like what Castle would want. No buying any of it. Wedding? I don't think so!

I am probably on my own when I say that I enjoyed this episode. Yes, Castle and Beckett have quite a lot to work out but I feel that everything that has been going on in the episode is very human, very real. I know that if my boyfriend (if I had one) wasn't paying much attention to me, then I wouldn't be complaining if a handsome man was flirting. I definitely wouldn't let anything happen, but I know it would feel nice to feel appreciated. Castle and Beckett both have their insecurities, we all do. They just need to sit down and talk, and let's be honest, Castle and Beckett haven't always been the best when it comes to communication, so it may be difficult. I completely trust Andrew Marlowe and Co. I've thoroughly enjoyed this season and I can't wait to see what is in store for us next!
