The Carrie Diaries Review: Mad is Wonderful

at . Comments

It's a cruel, cruel summer but in the best of ways. Carrie may have had a rough end of the year in "Kiss Yesterday Goodbye" but all is well that ends well and I have a feeling her next chapter is going to be a memorable one.

But before we bid adieu to our petite blonde writer, let's break down the end of the school year.

Carrie's Prom

I love you, I hate you, I love you: Carrie and Sebastian's relationship gives me whiplash! That feeling that Carrie described of waking up in the morning and having those few seconds of bliss when you don't remember what's upsetting you was so spot on. I can't tell you the number of times post fight or breakup when I've woken up and experienced that. Then there's that other kind of heartbreak: the selfish, self-sabotage kind. This is where Maggie's at.

First, she saw the cop with his "fiancee" at the diner. He's engaged? What a scuzzbucket!! C'mon Maggie. Then she found out Walt was gay and reacted in an alarmingly obnoxious manner. I get being upset that she didn't know and being upset because he allegedly loved her... but didn't tell her this huge part of himself. Yet that public scene in the diner was totally cringeworthy. Then she got drunk and kissed Sebastian. Oy Maggie, get it together girl!

Good thing Walt and Carrie decided to head into Manhattan for the summer. I was kind of giggling when Tom asked Carrie if she and Walt were dating. "Never say never!" No Tom, never. Besides Carrie and Walt are gonna be with good ol' Stanford this summer and Walt will finally get his first chance to just be himself and not have to hide his sexual orientation. The final scene of them in the apartment and Carrie on the typewriter was perfect.

I have to wonder if Sebastian would've ever been honest with Carrie about what happened with Maggie. They were trying to be more honest with each other and try and move past problems and fighting. Why would he give in to Maggie? He had enough sense when she first kissed him to pull away from it. Why then go in for that second kiss?

I love you so much my heart hurts. Is that what love's supposed to feel like? Pain? | permalink

For a lot of people, no it's not. But for Carrie she will later find out that she can't settle for anything less than that maddening kind of love. Larissa knows this about Carrie. That's why she collected her. It's interesting that Carrie usually seems like the more stable sister but when it comes to love Dorrit has it on lock. She has Miller and despite her tiny meltdown, she's happy. She just hadn't allowed herself to feel for a really long time.

With Dorrit, Mouse and Tom all in happy relationships I can only hope that Carrie and Walt's summer will bring some happiness too. I loved the season finale and the heartbreaking 80s ballads, all rolled together in the episode. Here's hoping for a season two confirmation soon!

I really hope it will get a second season. I am a huge fan. I cannot imagine why this is even debated. Compared to so many other shows out there, this one is a true gem. Second season, please!

awww standford i love him

@Shannon - Bennett mentioned to Walt how much fun his roommate "Stanford" was and how they'd have the best time with him that summer. The writers said that someone from Sex and the City would get their first mention, turned out to be Stanford! I personally thought it would be Samantha because of the first Carrie Diaries book.

I loved the season finale but I were to go on and on about the awesomeness of every detail from the episode, it might take a while. I am just gonna focus on on the one thing people kept arguing about above. The fact of the matter is, you can't blame Mags for everything she has done. The way she acted upon finding out Walt was gay was understandable. She loved him and she must have felt betrayed by Walt. Walt should have told her and not heard it from Sebastian. To me, Walt is the only one who can save her. She needs closure and Walt needs to just have an honest talk with her. It could even potentially be the most heartbreaking scene in all the episodes. The line 'you disgust me' she uttered at the diner was very wrong but the fact is it's the early 80's. During that time, it was harder for someone to come out. If it was now, it would be a totally different story. So, Mags who probably had never experience this kinda thing herself would think that it's wrong and disgusting. Lastly, Mags had a pretty rough year. Over the course of the series, she had the most heartbreak among all. Imagine loving someone for that long and felt like you've been cheated all along. And the guy she kinda likes is now engaged. Also, she's probably jealous that Carrie get the hot guy and she has to go through all this. During the bar scene, I would done exactly the same thing. Sebastian was the one guy who gave her any attention and she felt like she's the luckiest girl on earth that time. Mags is alone and sad, she needs to be with someone real and I honestly feel like Sebastian could be it for her. Anyway, really hope CW renews the show, excited for a season 2.

What did you mean when you wrote "Besides Carrie and Walt are gonna be with good ol' Stanford this summer"?

I love Carrie & Sebastian together they are a cute couple. But it seems that they will never be together. Every time they get together it only last like one episode. and in this case it didn't even last that long they got together and broke up like 3 times in one episode very annoying. Also was it me or did it seem like more than just kissing happend between Maggie & Sebastian. I mean I didn't think he would keep kissing her but then he just went for it. With the past of each of them I just got the sense that they ended up sleeping together. Why else would Maggie be so upset I don't think she would have felt that bad if she only made out with him. I mean yeah that is bad enough but I got the feeling that they went all the way. Never liked Maggie much now really don't like her at all. They left if up in the air as to what really happend after the kissing scene between Maggie & Sebastian .But then again maybe they didn't sleep together. Because otherwise Carrie would never forgive Sebastian which I think she is bound to do if we get Season 2

I didn't know it was the finale! :'( I really hope it gets a season 2.

I found Carrie terribly irritating and hard to watch in this episode - vut then again, that's true for me and many SATC episodes as well. If I were Sebastian I'd dump her and never look back, honestly.
With Dorrit happy (can't get enough Miller on screen!) someone had to be the bad girl, especially since Donna turned out alright (too bad she wasn't there, but then again, all of the characters are never in one episode), and Maggie was the obvious choice.
As for Mouse and the "hot geek boyfriend", I'm loving it. The chemistry they have! Glad to see her realize how serious it is - enough for her to stand up to her parents.
Last but not least, my (to my great surprise) favorite storyline - Walt and Bennett (and Stanford to come, apparently!). The connection there is electric - seriously, I could have watched that whole episode for the sole moment when Walt touches Bennett's face. Amazing! And still handled so smoothly and lightly, I mean, "jailbait"? Really? :)
All in all, I sincerely hope for more of the show, and soon!

I HATED this episode. I hated everyone in this episode. Carrie was so obnoxious. Too judgemental, even selfish. Maggie was obnoxious, being such a bitch. Sebastian was obnoxious. Carrie's dad was obnoxious. I have enjoyed all Carrie Diaries episode except this one. It started out good until Carrie broke up with Sebastian and being the brat that she is. I am afraid of how the future episodes will change the characters, just like how they changed everyone in Gossip Girl after season 2.

Spindae 2o

Sooooo! a really great EPISODE! A TREMENDOUS EPISODE!
Typical Carrie! She has a bit of double standards. She never could let really go and believe someone! oKay her mothers death changed everything but not really sure it could be so profound and make damage her that much. Anna-Sophia did a really good job. I see her becoming that smoking sweet girl. And when will that happen?
Walt and Maggie! I like they made Maggie the bad girl she is pretty lost, and plays her character pretty well. I WANNA SEE where this will end! I felt bad for Walt but glad he was so strong to handle it. I knew it was Stanford who gets a mention.
Mouse and Wes. Mouse is a really great character. And a great friend. and her scene with Eugene was really good.
