The Mentalist Review: An Odd Little Town

at . Comments

It was a "Red Letter Day" on The Mentalist, as the oddities spread from the town of Percy, California to Jane's attic. The latter had to do with Agent Bob Kirkland.

Jane's Wild West

Lisbon and Kirkland shared the most uncomfortable cup of coffee I've ever witnessed. What's the opposite of chemistry? Repulsion? Teresa looked as though she couldn't flee the scene fast enough.

Just when I thought Kirkland couldn't get any creepier, he did. As Jane and Lisbon mentioned in this The Mentalist quote

Jane: Don't you think it's odd, Homeland Security's fascination with a California serial killer?
Lisbon: Everything about Bob Kirkland is odd. You can add that to the list. | permalink

But it just got odder. It was no surprise that he had his agents break into Jane's attic to see what he had on Red John... but what was his purpose? Was it to let Red John know what Jane had on him? Is he actually Red John and just admiring Jane's handiwork? I'm really not sure.

Percy, California turned out to be just as odd as the man who owned it. When Hollis snarled at his son that he should have known Julianna was his sister, I could completely understand why he snapped and killed him. What a horrible nightmare.

The best part of the Wild West setting was that it allowed Jane to sharpen his skills and relive a bit of his carnie days. I could only laugh when Jane told Kevin that his magic sucked eggs. It seemed so odd to hear those words come out of the normally more eloquent Patrick Jane.

Another highlight was allowing Rigsby to use his arson skills to crack the case of the cabin fires. It's always nice to be reminded that there is a smart investigator behind that Wayne Rigsby blank stare.

Even better was having Cho call out Rigsby for being dense when it came to Grace.

You're still in love with her but instead of telling her you bought her a plant. | permalink

That about summed it up. Of course the moment Wayne got the nerve to tell her how he felt I knew what was coming. The new boyfriend walked off the elevator.

Do you think Duncan will be another Red John minion? Perhaps the next Jack the Ripper? Married with a secret family? Knowing Grace's luck with love it could be all of the above.

Does Wayne have a chance with Grace? What's your theory on Kirkland's end game? And what will Patrick do now that he knows his fortress of solitude has been compromised? Tell me your theories before the next The Mentalist.

Ahhh, Mimi, don't worry! That's why you watch it on DVD, so you can rewind, put the subtitles on, rewind again and pause at the important moments!!! ;-)
I don't know anything about economy, but might learn something just watching that movie. I hope it was resurched thoroughly. I'll definitely give it a try.
Estatica - I don't know if it still is such a big issue to date outside your 'race' (never dated a black/Asian guy)! It seemed like it in that movie.
She was very concerned what her people and friends would think, witch is understandable. He came from a totally different place, didn't care about money and skin colour. I loved him driving around in this big truck, with the dog on the front seat! But I do agree with you 100%. Something was missing!

oh thanks Estatica, yes I kind of fell of the tumblr wagon, will deffo have a look at these two blogs thanks!

Estatica I agree with you, didn't like the actress much either, don't know why.. she wasn't all that to me. Bonaduz I have decided to watch Margin call too but I have to say I'm dumb when it comes to economy and financial stuff so not sure it's for me. I learned economy though but it comes in and gets out straight away. I have the memory capacity of a red fish.

I've seen Something New (because of Baker) and somehow couldn't connect with it. I also didn't like the leading actress all that much. Basically I thought there wasn't much depth to the characters. He played the perfect guy, without flaws, never did anything wrong; and she spent the whole movie embarrassed with herself for liking him (what woman on earth would be embarrassed of being with a guy like that?) and fighting her instincts to be with him because he's white and not rich enough. She never did anything to deserve his love, except perhaps at the end, when she just ran off in a dress to go and proclaim her undying love to him. So, meh... as shallow as it sounds, if Simon Baker hadn't been in it, I'd erase it from my memory palace.

@Entwife - looks like you saw the link. Glad you liked it! Hmmm, maybe it's just my computer???
I like your o/' sign. Good idea! ;-)))
@Mimi and @Huisclothes - I felt the same about 'Something new'. I always skip to 'Simon' scenes! I have to get 'Margin call' yet.

oh entwife you've lost your cat? I'm so sorry! I didn't read the previous comments..

Hey, it looks like one of my comments was just taken out! Weird. It was a link for a video on youtube. Ok, try that if you like: youtube - Simon Baker is magic. Just a fun mix of scenes from Sex and Death 101. Brightens up the day!
@Entwife - sorry for your cat. It happens all the time here - they get lost, eaten by eagles, coyotes, lynx, foxes, owls or whatever else! The boys know that and are not so devastated anymore when one goes missing. The dog we already have 7 years now. He's great (just not for zombies!). I love to have animals around, they're fun.

I'm getting excited for Sun-day . . . o/` o/` o/` (that's music) @huisclothes on the audio coming to light for the Lorelei torture scene -- surely Patrick would hate her completely for that -- instead of going kind of numb and saying well Julia deserved it. Chilling, that.

@mimi definitely. it's nice to see that simon has the luxury of picking better material now. margin call, i give it a year (have a feeling it's awful but has a prestigious pedigree) and soon, i hope, breath. he doesn't need to do anything financially but he's still not getting great projects. hasn't made the jump to more important films. hope it happens for him.

Totally loved that clip @bonaduz. hot Hot HOT!
