Castle Review: Life Changes and Sad Faces

at . Comments

Castle Season 5 came to a close with “Watershed," a finale centered around opportunities and big life changes. Changes big enough to make your jaw drop. So let’s get to it...

Castle Season 5 Finale Photo

Caskett... Forever or No More? Beckett went ahead and interviewed for the amazing opportunity in DC, but felt the need to hide it from everyone. It may make sense to keep it a secret at work until you have a decision, but not from the man with whom you are in a relationship.

After Castle found out, he made an excellent point: She didn’t care enough to include him in the decision of interviewing for this job. That stings worse than anything else. But on the other hand, Beckett has to think of her career, especially when she isn't sure where her personal life is going.

Beckett nailed her interview and received a glowing recommendation from Gates. She met with her father, who asked her what she really wants and she admitted: the new job.

At the same time, Castle shared a touching scene with Mama Martha where she let her son know Beckett deserves this, but she needs to know where things are going. So what should Castle do next?

After being offered the job, Kate and Rick met on the swings, an important place in their relationship. Castle admitted that he wants more and they both deserve more. So, does that mean breakup? NOPE!! It means our very own Rick Castle down on one knee proposing marriage. I never thought I’d see the day!

Big kudos to the writers on pulling this off. Long time viewers had to know that this would come at some point... but at the swings? Seriously, how romantic.

It didn't feel forced. This next step felt extremely natural, which is something the writers have been able to pull off all season.

So, now what? We didn’t get to see an answer from Beckett and we know she wants the job. There’s no way she can leave NYC... it’s just not practical for the show. But will she stick around and end up resenting Castle? Looks like we have to wait until next season to find out. One thing is for sure, I’m definitely on team Mr. & Mrs. Caskett.

Side Notes.

  • Gotta love the close friendship between Espo and Beckett. He’s always had her back and he was able to recognize something is up. How will he take it if Beckett decides to leave?
  • Alexis is heading to Costa Rica for six weeks for a school trip. I’m pretty sure everyone can relate to Castle not wanting to have his daughter out of the country again. Paris anyone?
  • Girl time!! Lanie and Beckett finally had some necessary BFF time. Can we make a deal that this happens more next season?
  • Daddy to be!! Ryan dropped the bomb on his best bud that him and the Mrs. are finally expecting a baby. Anyone else agree that Ryan will be one amazing father?

So, what did you think? Did the finale live up to the expectations of the season or did it fall flat? The hour was pretty slow until those last few minutes, right? Will Beckett go to DC or stay in NYC? Will she accept Castle’s proposal? So many questions and no answers for a few months!

Hit up the comments and sound off on the hour. Did you love it or no? Will you be able to wait till September to find out Kate’s answer?

I could be wrong but IF I am am then so is the lovely lady on writing on the Castle walls. If I am I will recant!

The reasons are:
1) She is supposed to be an iceberg i.e. all those emotions are below the surface
2) She has done the wrong thing by Castle
3) allied to this is the fact she now realises just how much Castle loves her
4) She must realise also how much castle has helped her professionally. She is now a much better detective because of Castle. take him away and he loses ground as well

Our Roy montgomery,
you have a better knowledge of hoe office relationships work out. Marlowe is an english major. if he doesn't understand what watershed means then it is good bye to Castle. It is all about Beckett because that is where they have created the problems. Watershed must mean that in the end Beckett has realised what she has done and what is reality. i have said once but I will repeat my self (I am allowed I am over 50!!) but there must be lots of tears from Beckett.

nottrampis. We can always count on you to keep us calm as we languish during the summer months over the Bad Beckett behavior towards Castle during the 3 episode arc. You know already that I am with you on the job scenario. I don’t see anyway she goes to DC. The time lapse alone needed to put her in DC as a new agent would not be realistic. For Beckett to choose the job over Castle would just speak volumes about her poor character. The show creator has a twist for sure to get the viewers through S6x1. In my mind, I think the twist will have Captain Gates involved to validate her watershed moment(I have a good idea what the twist will be, but I will hold my thoughts for now).

Just to let you know I won't be able t watch the first episode until it is on the TV over there at 10 p.m. so I will have to wait until about 1 pm.m my time to watch it so it id a day off to see if the writers get is right! Less than 2 months !

Donna, we need a new name for you as well.

Please, God, Castle, if you ever read between the lines, do it now. Because this is all I've got the courage to say right now. "I know I'm not going to be able to be the kind of person that I want to be, I know I'm not gonna..." and thank God, he's looking at her, now when it counts, and her eyes never leave his as she continues, "I'm not going to be able... to have the kind of relationship I want, until that wall comes down." You, Castle. It's you. Please, please, please understand. Give me a chance. "And it's not gonna happen until I put this thing to rest." She watches him, studies him like a suspect across the interrogation table, using all her skill and sense of expression and body language, and her heart sings when she sees his reaction. Message received, loud and clear. "Well then, I suppose we're just gonna have to find these guys and take 'em down." He pauses before continuing. "Doesn't mean I'm not still mad."

Here is a writer of fanfiction that is on the samev page as me. Proably 25 years between us!!
'She wants to tell him about all the times over the summer when she reached for the phone, even going so far as doing that "dial every number except the last" thing like some lovesick high school girl. But every time she tried, the black dread gripped her, the specter of every failed relationship, every time she blew some poor bastard out of the water, some guy who never did anything wrong except get involved with Katherine Beckett. She's the world heavyweight champion of relationship killers. This summer, Josh; before him, Tom; before that, Will, and how many more before him? Over and over, like a curse, she can always find some way to screw things up. And now Castle, a relationship stillborn, has she killed it before it even had a chance? "I really, really liked him." She pauses, looks directly at him. His face is still turned away, but she knows he'll turn to look at her eventually, and when he does, she wants him to see her looking at him. Giving him her full attention. The words are for him, and nobody else. "But that wasn't enough." Not any more. Not now, now that there's you. Never again. "After my mother was killed, something inside of me changed. It's like I... built up this wall, inside. I don't know, I guess I just didn't want to hurt like that again."

Wow,miss tonya said it all,to those who suggest that a job change in a different city will finally show kate that rick is her guy after all, tonyas "she doesn't love him and she never will" is so true think about it if she still isn't convinced that ricks the guy there is nothing more rick can do to convince her-she is in constant doubt looking for futher proof, with that mind set no matter what rick does she will need more and more proof-its endless!!

settle down pettle. I don't think the writers are idiots. bad sometimes yes but not idiots. So the final arc is supposed to be telling us something. the problem they have created is that just normal fans like my sons are completely confused. I am not but I am a consultant to Captain Gates and special Agent Shaw!!! But come the first episode both I and the lovely lady from WOTCW's could become wood-ducks!
