The Mentalist Season 6: What We Hope to See

by at . Comments

September 29th feels like it's a long way off. Mostly because it is. And as much as we enjoy summer, the cool breezes of autumn and our favorite shows returning with new episodes weigh heavy on our minds.

So since we have to wait another 80-plus days for the season premiere of The Mentalist, we decided to make a list.

Read on, TV Fanatics, and see if our hopes and dreams for The Mentalist Season 6 match yours. Vote for what you'd most like to see happen come fall and don't forget to share your thoughts and add anything we've missed in the comments below.

Jane's Wild West

Our Mentalist Season 6 Wish List:

The Big Reveal. Yes, we finally want to know Red John's true identity. It's been five seasons. It's about time we know.

A Love Interest for Cho. One that doesn't involve a hooker, a junkie, or any other type of criminal. Someone worthy of the character we've grown to love.

More Rigsby and Van Pelt. It took a long time for these two to find their way back to one another. We're hoping to see this couple stay happy for a while.

Jisbon. That's the shipper name for Jane and Lisbon for those not in the know. A Jane / Lisbon pairing has been hinted at and teased for five seasons. It's included an I love you from Patrick that he later side stepped and many doe eyed looks for Teresa. It's about time these two had an honest conversation about how they feel for one another.

A Kiss. For those of us who don't care about the talking and want a little more action, a real kiss between this dynamic duo would make us cheer.

Casual Time. Wouldn't it be great to see the entire team spend a little more time outside the CBI?

Real Danger for Our Core Team. Show creator Bruno Heller promised that Red John will be targeting closer to home this season. We're hoping that means RJ will go after someone on Jane's immediate team. Not that we want to see Lisbon, Cho, Rigsby, or Van Pelt die at the hands of the merciless serial killer…but having one of them in serious peril will have us glued to the screen.

YOUR turn: Pick the story you're most hoping for on The Mentalist Season 6...

So they have a nice dinner, some wine, and a comfortable conversation about life and possibilities. (No RJ talk allowed.) They dance to something romantic with a waltz tempo, sing some of the words to each other. (Wine is kicking in a bit and the world is looking better and better.) When they sit down they find themselves speechless and just look at each other. And smile. They know they love each other without saying it. Jane finally says he wants to kiss her and is it OK. Of course it is. Nice kiss, followed by Lisbon asking him if that's all he wants. Jane: "Well, no, there's more, but I don't think it would work well here with everyone watching." So they go home to Lisbon's place. At this point I will stop because I want to respect their privacy. But I will say that the next day they drive over to Nevada to get married. Their RJ memories will fade and never be allowed to interfere with their happiness again.

Very hesitant, he asks Lisbon if she'd like to go on a date with him - just to practice being normal. He'll even bring her flowers. Lisbon gets assurance they won't squirt water. Jane asks her to wear a pretty dress, remembering how she looked in that bridesmaid dress. She objects but Jane (such a neat non-sexist guy!) says he never sees lovely women as people to objectify or demean. He just wants the experience of seeing her like that in all her female aesthetic splendor. To experience being normal. So Lisbon goes along with this but the dress has a long skirt under which she straps a gun to one leg and handcuffs to the other, with her badge in her bra. Lisbon will always be Lisbon - a law enforcer - just as Jane will always set his own boundaries and sometimes be a pain in the ass. They go to a nice restaurant that has a band that plays soft rock and romantic show tunes. There's a small dance floor. (Continued)

OK, let's see if we can do an aftermath that follows logically from what we've seen. Jane cannot switch off 11 years of thinking and plotting about RJ 24/7 overnight. He is certain to be confused and feeling adrift in a world where he's kept everyone at emotional arms' length. He's not a carney hustler any more; neither is he a celebrity psychic or family man. He's only a CBI consultant and only as a means to find RJ. He will need time to adjust to a world without RJ and see where he fits into it. He's adaptable enough to do it in a few weeks. He'll start by abandoning his RJ memory infested CBI attic, and wander around among the CBI team like a lost puppy, Lisbon will frequently find him sleeping on her couch when she comes to work. She will decide to help him shift his world view by setting up outings for him, with the team, with her, by himself, for picnics, movies, amusement park rides - anything to give him new things to think about. Finally, Jane takes the initiative (To be continued, moderation permitting.)

That sounds boring. How about...Jane goes to Lisbon's apartment, slices her open and says "Red John says hi :)" Woops... :D

Opening scene in Red aftermath, new beginnings. Jane goes to Lisbon's apartment. Lisbon opens the door and lets Jane in. Lisbon is getting ready for work, putting her badge in her belt and checking her gun. Jane is just standingin the room gazing at her. Lisbon stops what she is doing and asks Jane if he's ok, does he need to talk about what happened. Jane takes a step forward, he reaches out his arms and he grabs Lisbon's shoulders. He slowly runs his hands down to Lisbon's hands and holding them tightly he brings them up to the center of his chest. Pressing her hands tightly to his chest he tells her he is in love with her. He tells her that he has always been in love with her....Finish the story Rationalgal!

The next episode after that should be called the Red aftermath, new beginnings!

To finish Ani's gripping story: Jane is wounded too much to react quickly as Kirkland moves in to kill him. Just then, Lisbon bursts through the door and shoots and kills Kirkland. She's been following Jane and psyching out his plan all along. Jane lets things go at that point, having had enough of killing fake Red John's and very tired and very glad to have Lisbon as his backup partner. They finished the job together in one way or another, they know they have each other to count on from now on and that is good enough.

The Mentalist Quotes

As they say, you can take the girl out of Chicago but you can't take the Chicago out of the girl.

Jane

I love Lisbon and I'm taking you to the real police and they're going to lock you up for the rest of your life.
