ABC has given fans their first official look at Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

The wildly anticipated series - whose pilot was written and directed by Joss Whedon and which airs on September 24th - stars Clark Gregg, Ming-Na Wen, Brett Dalton, Chloe Bennet, Iain De Caestecker and Elizabeth Henstridge in the main, investigative roles.

Check out the comic book-based team, assembled for the first time, in this new poster:

Gregg, of course, has generated the most buzz for his role, considering Agent Coulston was killed off in The Avengers.

But the actor said he spoke to Whedon about how and why the character will be revived and hung up "very deeply on board" with the project.

So, just how is Agent Coulston alive and back in charge? That storyline “will be something of a drawn-out explanation,” Whedon told reporters yesterday at the Television Critics Association summer press tour.

I think I heard somewhere that Coulson's death was really a robot. But I'm not sure.

I have a feeling this is the new show that's going to have a hard time living up to all its hype.

I'm glad that Agent Coulston is alive again. Generally I oppose bringing characters back; it often feels like a magical escape from a storyline gone wrong. But it's Agent Coulston. And, well, the TV show hasn't started yet. Looking forward to Whedon helming another TV show, even if I am feeling fatigued by all the superhero stories in media now. But because of the onslaught, I hope people don't tire of the saturation.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Quotes

The world is full of evil, lies, pain, and death and you can’t hide from it. You can only face it. The question is when you do, how do you respond, who do you become?

Hill: What does S.H.I.E.L.D. stand for Agent Ward?
Ward: Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division.
Hill: And what does that mean to you?
Ward: That someone really wanted our initials to spell SHIELD.
