Sources tell TMZ that Young was late for work this morning, prompting his landlord to open his apartment door to check on the star and finding his corpse inside, reportedly the result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

"We are all without the words to truly express our collective grief and profound sadness at the loss of such a sweet, bright light," Tweeted Rizzoli & Isles creator Janet Tamaro not long after the tragic news broke.

Young broke into acting on Disney Channel’s The Famous Jett Jackson in 1998 and also appeared in episodes of Scrubs, FlashForward and Smallville. We send our thoughts and best wishes to the 29-year old actor's friends and loved ones.

UPDATE: The actor's publicist has confirmed the suicide, while TNT has released the following statement...

He was truly a member of our family. Lee will be cherished and remembered by all who knew and loved him, both on- and offscreen, for his positive energy, infectious smile and soulful grace. The star savors simplicity, and she didn disappoint inside a black halter gown by designer Jenny Packham, accessorized with vintage jewels and her huge reduce back tattoo. She told E! that awards days, even though hectic, are enjoyable. enjoyable to wake up and play with your youngsters and get prepared and go out and be with your good friends.

My heart goes out to his family, friends, and co-workers who knew him personally, it is another great loss for Hollywood, as a fan of the show, I am curious as to how they will proceed with the series now that Lee is gone, will they fill his shoes with a look alike actor, will they add his death into the show and create a new character? If they play out his death on screen will it be a suicide, accident, or murder, as that is what the show is about. I wonder how Lee would like for the character of Berry Frost to be carried out?

God, I am always sorry to hear that some jackass sucked a bullet and took the cowards way out of this world. Wish the brother would have called the LA suicide hotline!!! Maybe his young life world have been saved. He was proably suffering from Manic depression or bipolar as they so affectionly call manic depression today. What a waste. Oh well, like Tony Olando said when his best friend Freddie Prinze did the same thing: "He is where he wants to be."

Donna, I find your end remark to be totally inappropriate -

he did stay out of the public eye. I never saw him out or heard he was in any trouble. rip

Funny how a character that we tune in to watch every week becomes a part of our lives. He was a great actor because he showed no signs in his role, he was funny, on time, and played his part so well. Whatever his reason for ending his life, he must have felt so sad and empty. While I know he was someone I had never met, his loss was felt not only by me but by a lot of people who had also never met him. I hope that his family finds a way to come to grips with his passing.

I can not believe
A real tragedy for he,families and friends.

Just a shame...use the real event to get point accross. He killed himself...no one was expecting it...and no one in the show was either. HAVE THE CHARACTER suddenliy kill himself. DEAL WITH IT.

At the end of tonight's episode there was a dedication and photos of him.

This is just incredibly sad. I loved his character on R&I and will miss seeing his smiling face week after week on the show. I think R&I was still in the process of filming the back 4 episodes of the current season that are usually slated to air in December/January. With production due to end Aug. 29th, they were close to done but I wonder if they will have to rewrite now or will handle this tragedy next season.
