Lifetime has closed down its longest-running base.

The network announced today that it has pulled the plug on Army Wives, following a seventh season that featured many new cast members.

A two-hour retrospective will air some time in early 2014.

Army Wives Stars

Said Lifetime Executive Vice President and General Manager Rob Sharenow in a statement:

“There is no denying how special Army Wives has been to both Lifetime and the television landscape. By taking on a very relevant and timely issue, it has brilliantly captured the challenges our military families endure and the bravery they and their loved ones display while serving our country…. We also want to thank Army Wives’ passionate legion of fans and everyone involved with the series: ABC Studios, Mark Gordon and Jeff Melvoin, Tanya Biank, every single cast member, as well as the crew and community of Charleston, South Carolina.”

Throughout its run, Army Wives received numerous accolades: two Gracie Awards from the Alliance for Women in Media; a Sentinel for Health Award from the USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism’s Norman Lear Center; an NAACP Image Award; and a NAMIC Award.

Very sad that Lifetime takes off a wonderful program, bringing into light "real life"
happenings versus ridiculous shows as Honey Boo Boo, etc.-senseless! Army Wives received all these various awards and had an outstanding original cast. This was one program that I truly looked forward to each Sunday. Very sad to see this excellent show get canned. I am sure Lifetime ratings will take big hit. It is with me!

I have watched this show from the very beginning. As a wife of a retired Army soldier I value the respect and loyalty to the soldiers and their families on the show as I lived this military life for 20 years. I agree with the comments of other viewers, take off the reality shows, they are so over dramatic and unrealistic, lets show support for our men and women who wear the uniform and the families who support them for their decisions. I have made many great friendships at many different Army posts through the years and I am so thankful we had each other to lean on for support or just to watch each others kids for a little quite time or to run errands. The cancelation of Army Wives disappoints me.

Worst decision ever made! I've watched every single last episode since day one! Claudia joy was obviously killed off bc of what happened during a real military cermoney and being drunk and disrespectful! Why in the world would you do this? You play re-runs of dumb stuff during the day, dance moms which is so scripted, it has to be the worst reality show ever! Not to mention reality shows are getting old! How are they are reality when people are reading scripts!?!? I'm not even in the military nor is any of my close family, but it was a great show for families to realize how hard it is on military families. I think as a huge fan myself, lifetime owes a season finale to their fan base and not to mention all of the actors, actresses, producers, and everyone else who was involved in this show for the past several years! Horrible well to tell your fans, and really have a whole new outlook on the lifetime channel! No need to watch it or support any other series they make if this is how they treat their fan base as well as everyone employeed!

I along with many others cannot believe you would cancel such a great show that instills morals, honor, loyalty, friendship, importance of family, love for one another and our country. Reality tv about 3 year olds looking like they are 24 and children being forced to dance by their moms because they're reliving their lives through their children is not entertaining for me. I have watched this show since season 1 episode 1. I know I am only one person and my comment is just my opinion but I just honestly believe if a tv network would continue a wholesome show like army wives and not worry with "reality smut" tv the world might not be such a trashy pathetic place. By saying that I mean, I know when I have children one day I would be proud if they grew to be like any of the characters on army wives, I will not be if they make Honey Booboo, Kim kardashian, toddlers in tiaras, Americas next top model, etc. their role models. Also by being an AMERICAN television network, lifetime should have been more than proud to air Army Wives. I have always had the most respect for out men and women in uniform but Army Wives gave a whole other perspective and made me Proud that I was an American and evermore thankful for those brave soldiers.

Why on God's green earth would you cancel a wonderful show like this?? Why not cancel Dance Moms or some other horrid show that you have on? Just goes to show how much you support, or lack of, that you have for our men and women in uniform!!!! I will no longer be tuning in to ANY Lifetime shows EVER again!!!! Unless, of course, you come to your senses and restart Army Wives again!!!

Anytime you start introducing new charaters into a series it turns into a train wreck. Just look at Two and a Half Men.

It's a shame. I have watched this show from day one. Army Wives is what I watched when my husband was gone. And roxy and trevors characters what a pin point to our relationship. Met each other and not even a week later we was married. I am disappointed you would cancel something that was watched all over the world. But keep other shows on.that probably does not even come close to army wives. I think you should air another.season!!! Or lose a lot of viewers
