Copper: Canceled by BBC America

by at .

BBC has pulled the plug on Copper after two seasons.

The period drama has been a modest success for the network, but has failed to generate the sort of enormous buzz of Orphan Black, another BBC original series.

Copper Season 2 Scene

Sad BBC America General Manager Perry Simon in a statement:

"Copper has been a fascinating and exciting experience for everyone involved. The opportunity to work with Tom Fontana, Barry Levinson, Will Rokos, Thomas Kelly and the extraordinary cast and crew on this journey is one that we are extremely proud of. Their vision to retell the immigrant experience through the melting pot of New York City was an original and fresh idea that melded well with the essence of BBC America's programming. After 23 episodes, with Lincoln dead and the nation starting to heal, it seems a fitting moment to conclude this American story."

Copper starred Tom Weston-Jones in the lead role.

Copper was one of the few bright lights in a sea of reality TV crapola. This show never should have been cancelled, especially just leaving it drop off with no closure.

I TOTALLY agree!! Since season 3 was already written, Mr. Fontana had no idea what BBC America was planning. It's like the Exec's were sitting around one day and said, "You know that COPPER show? Yeah, I don't want to renew it." BAM!! It's done! With all the CRAP reality TV out there like all the stupid "Housewives" shows and the absolute horrific Hunny Boo Boo, COPPER really WAS reality! I miss it every day! Spread the word!! Sign the petitions and maybe, just maybe we can get some closure!

This was one of my favorite shows. Why does BBC America always do this with shows I enjoy. I hope another network picks it up like they did with Ripper Street.

Help us in getting the show COPPER back on our TV screens by joining the the Bring Back Copper page on Facebook. https://www.facebook.com/groups/575226115847540/. We also have a tweet-fest every Sunday night during the shows normal scheduled time. COPPER was brilliantly written and the cast is an amazing group of talent. The decision not to renew, according to BBCA, was that they wanted to focus on Orphan Black! HA, Orphan Black has NOTHING on COPPER! Join the fight to save our show!

This show was starting to get really good. If I was a multi Billionaire, I would start a Network called Green Light.

Shows like this that get canceled would live on my Green Light Network.

Look what happened to the Original Star Trek? Canceled after three seasons and became one of the biggest franchises in the Industry. Sometimes it takes a few seasons for a show to get traction. Also, what was Copper up against?

That can kill a show, even a good show.

Copper is a class act. Great writing, great cast, superb production, I actually felt like I was back in old New York City!

Very sorry to see this show go away!

This is one of my favorites. This show should be advertised more and even if it isn't "popular" you should still air it for all of us who aren't brain-dead. It's time for quality tv and Copper is a quality show.

I hate to hear this one of my favorites, I think maybe it was not advertised enough, very realistic and well acted.

I guess they need to make room on the schedule for more shows like I Love My Big Boobs. Friggin' idiots :(

Please renew this unusual and fascinating show. Such a wonderful insight to our early history. We have looked forward to it every week. Love all the characters in it.

Please, please, please renew this extraordinary show! It's a shame to end it when the characters are finally all beginning to develop. So many potential story lines.
