Matt Davis is going from the classroom to the laboratory.

The former Vampire Diaries star has booked a recurring role on CSI Season 14, TV Line confirms, as he'll debut on the CBS drama in October as the son of a decorated fireman.

Look for Davis' character to come across as a loner, but to actually possess the "soul of a poet and mind of a mathematician," sources say. He'll also be especially athletic and competitive.

The actor will appear on multiple episodes of the long-running series, which returns on Wednesday, September 25.

His addition should help offset the loss of George Eads, who has been suspended from the show indefinitely after clashing with a writer on set.
