I'm a sucker for weddings. The dress. The vows. The happiness. It all makes me so weepy. And when as many obstacles have been overcome as Booth and Brennan have on Bones, the ceremony is made that much sweeter.

It's been eight seasons in the making and not even a burned down church or a cold case could keep Booth and Bones from getting married. 

It wasn't flawless by any means, but "The Woman in White" might go down as one of my favorites in Bones history if only because of the sentimentality of the episode. 

For starters, Brennan's nerves felt out of place considering the fact that she's changed her views on marriage because of Booth and how sad she was when she thought it wouldn't happen. Some nerves might be normal, but it felt like yet another time when the writers couldn't remember the ways they've developed the character. That she was so laser-focused on solving the case felt very old-school Brennan. It was all so two steps forward, 6 seasons back. 

Everyone placing bets on when the wedding would be called off, while terrible because they're all supposed to be Booth and Brennan's friends, was sort of funny. The fact that a cold case nearly kept them from the altar, not so much.

On the one hand, Brennan would want to solve the case even to the detriment of her own life and happiness. On the other hand, she's come a long way in 8 seasons and would understand that a 30 year old case could wait a day. Calling in Edison who called in all the squints to work for free was great. Let's see more Edison, please!

The flip side of having all the squints show up to solve the case is that it made the cold case feel contrived. It made it convenient for Brennan to invite them all to the wedding after originally leaving them off the guest list because they weren't in relationships and she didn't want to flaunt her own happiness. That was about as Brennan-esque an explanation for their not being invited in the first place as we could possibly have been given and it worked but couldn't erase the feeling that they shouldn't have needed a cold case to appear in this episode.

Booth burning down the church after lighting a candle for Brennan's mom and Angela stepping up to the plate to throw them a wedding turned everything around, ultimately making the episode a win.

After Pelant, murders, nerves, gambling pools, and acts of God threatened to keep them apart, Angela was insistent that they would get married. So thank you, Angela, for overcoming your Booth hate, realizing that this couple deserves a happy celebration after everything they've been through, and making sure it happened despite their protests that they would plan it all themselves.

Instead of in a church, they got married at the place where it all began: The Jeffersonian. 

Minus the fact that Christine didn't appear to be in attendance at the wedding, which was odd, the ceremony was everything we could have expected. Brennan spouted off nervously that she wasn't being given from one man to another like property. Booth went off the cuff with vows about how they've been playing a game of chase and have now caught one another. Brennan gave a beautiful speech about the man who changed her life:

Brennan: When Hodgins and I were buried alive, we each wrote a message to someone we loved in case our bodies were ever found. Hodgins wrote to Angela. I wrote to you. 'Dear Agent Booth, you are a confusing man. You are irrational and impulsive, superstitious and exasperating. You believe in ghosts and angels and maybe even Santa Claus. And because of you, I've started to see the universe differently. How is it possible that simply looking into your fine face gives me so much joy? Why does it make me so happy that every time I try to sneak a peek at you you are already looking at me? Like you, it makes no sense. And like you, it feels right. If I ever get out of here, I will find a time and a place to tell you that you make my life messy and confusing and unfocused and irrational and wonderful.' This is that time. What works about Booth and Bones are the ways in which they bring balance to each other. Where she's all head, he leads with his heart. Where she craves order, he's okay with thinking outside the box. They've made each other better people and this marriage is the culmination of 8 years of growth and change. 

Here's a couple who for all intents and purposes don't seem well-suited for one another. They're not the pair friends would set up on a blind date.

But despite their vast and varied differences, they've got a good thing going. They work. Opposites really do attract. At least in television.

There may have been discord about the abrupt way they were thrown together in Bones season 6, but it's hard to deny that fans are happy they're finally here. Well, it's hard for me to deny that I'm happy. Weddings have a way of doing that.
