NBC Orders Tina Fey-Penned Cult Comedy to Series, Will Star Ellie Kemper

NBC has skipped the pilot process and ordered a new sitcom straight to a 13-episode order. For two very good reasons:

  1. Tina Fey.
  2. Ellie Kemper.

Penned by Fey and starring Kemper, the series has the working title of "Tooken" and will be a single-camera comedy set in New York City and focusing on a young woman recently freed from a doomsday cult.

Sounds… hilarious?

Awkward Meal Alert!

Fey and fellow 30 Rock producer Robert Carlock wrote the pilot script and will serve as producers alongside fellow Rocker David Miner.

“Tina and Robert, who cemented their partnership on 30 Rock, have created a new signature comedy for us that is audacious, emotional, and clever,” said Peacock Chairman Robert Greenblatt. “While tapping into very relatable themes, there isn’t anything like this anywhere else on television. NBC has been their home for many years and we’re so happy that they’ve found another way to push the comedy envelope for us.”

Look for Tooken to be on NBC's schedule in the fall of 2014.
