Revenge Review: Forgive Me Father

by at . Comments

There wasn't even a Red Sharpie take down and tonight's Revenge was still fantastic. Alliances were formed and revealed! Feathers were ruffled! Plans were changed! All the exclamation points!

Conrad may not have given his "Confession," but watching Emily try to get it was certainly entertaining.

Nolan's Housewarming Party

Finally, after three episodes, we're getting somewhere. Let's hit the highlights first, shall we?

We got some answers to questions that have had us on the edge of our collective seats for a few weeks now. Among them:

Aiden and Emily are in cahoots.

Nolan threw a housewarming party. A $2 million dollar housewarming party. He invited Victoria who, by her own assertion, has never had to be invited to a Hamptons party. Her presence is just expected. My, Victoria, how times have changed now that you're bankrupt.

Watching Victoria squirm while Emily publicly announced Victoria's private business at Nolan's party was quite fantastic. There's not much that can be done to make Victoria sympathetic. Not even Patrick. Any time she gets a comeuppance is a good time by me.

At first it seemed as if this was an off-the-cuff moment of insult on Emily's part. That Aiden's presence had shaken her up enough to lose her normally collected composure publicly. Later we learned that Emily and Aiden are working together and we all rejoiced! YES!

There was no way that he had actually turned on her like he proclaimed to Victoria. There wasn't any plausible reason why he would have wanted to take Emily down, at least not that we'd been shown, and yet the question was still there. Does Aiden really hate Emily?

No. That answer is absolutely no. And she doesn't hate him either.

In fact, that tender moment between the two of them on the beach, where she laid her hand across the scar from his Daniel-inflicted bullet wound, says that she cares very much for Aiden. Very much.  Whew. It's such a relief to know they're working together and not against each other. Even if she's upset that he inadvertently complicated things for her with Daniel by showing up.

Daniel, as it turns out, really is an easily intimidated coward.

He's afraid that Aiden has come back to seek revenge after Daniel shot him at the end of Revenge season 2. A paranoid Daniel is a hard to control Daniel. Maybe now is the time for Emily to start dosing him like she's dosing Conrad so that he'll also think he's dying? Except Daniel has nothing to confess, really. Conrad does, though.

He was on his way to confess when his "illness" caused him to crash into a telephone pole ejecting Father Paul from the car and to his death.

First, Emily ruined the man's life by completing a take down she shouldn't have. Now the man has actually lost his life on a quest for forgiveness and Emily has to pay the price of that. Father Paul's blood is on her hands.

And that's the theme of Revenge Season 3 so far: knowing when to cut your losses and walk.

So far, Emily doesn't know that limit. She's tested repeatedly, but she keeps pressing forward with her plan leaving mountains of collateral damage in her wake. At some point, enough is enough, right?

Maybe. Maybe not. The intrigue is in seeing just how far Emily will go before pulling back.

Other standout moments from tonight:

  • Shirtless Justin Hartley sighting!
  • Is it possible that Patrick is Nolan's new beau? Sparks seemed a little...sparky.
  • Awww, Jack was having fun for once. You go, Margaux.
  • Daniel, the next time you throw a dismissive "babe" at Emily, I hope she adds you to her Red Sharpie Takedown list.
What did you think of "Confession?" Are you relieved to learn that Emily and Aiden are on the same side? What happens to Conrad now that Father Paul isn't around to get him to confess? Check out the Revenge quotes page and then let's chat about tonight's episode in the comments.

Is it me, or does Emily have absolutely NO CHEMISTRY with Jack? She has much more passion and chemistry with both Aiden and Daniel. But with Jack? NADA. It's even uncomfortable to see them together at all. I think it's just a case of unfortunate miscasting. They should have had the actors who play Daniel and Jack reversed or something. Or maybe the Aiden actor could have been a great Jack. But nope. They screwed that one up big time. Now I'm really hoping Emily ends up with Aiden instead. After all, there is just NO WAY realistically that Emily could end up with Jack after everything HER actions have brought forth in his life. Impossible. Emily + Aiden = HOT. Emily + Daniel = Semi-HOT. Emily + Jack = Ick.

i loveeed this episode!!
is hard with this hot men to choose ,with every situation and episode the interaction change, jack is the obvious endgame because of their history but he is hurt,he is very judgy too, with her everything has a hiden agenda for him,i loved see him with magaux ,i like them together and she could help him heal.aiden is so bad lying to victoria ,haha thats were i knew his meanside was stage ,and the final scene with em and the beach and that bulletwound, left a possibility . daniel changed again,he is a scare of aiden ,hahaha,he should be,i like he let emily go after his mother and at the end,"let go babe",hahaha.i dont think anymore he has a change to come out clean after she is done ,and patrick is still a mistery, hot posible beu of nolan ,who gave the best housewarming party, swans, lots of hot gay men, drama ,and white ,wonder there that topic is going.

Wow! Revenge definately back to its best!!! Enjoyed it a lot.
I was sure Aiden had not turned against Emily though thought that he had made the plan himself without Emily knowing.
Seems like Patrick will be Nolan´s new love interest!!!
Jack is still sooo boring but hopefully he will get involved with Margaux and Emily will end up with Aiden. They are great for each other and so obviously care deeply for each other. Cant wait for next week!

I like how, to Emily, he let it seem like there was something there even though he wasn't sure himself. I am HOPING he had a little forgiveness when he saw that Em was distressed about Charlotte. Wonder how Ems will feel about the Father dying. Charlotte has been annoying me a little w/her attitude towards Em. Seems like only Nolan and Aiden still like her! Actually feel bad for her that way. Glad Daniel is back to being a spoiled, bratty ass. Story works better when he's less sympathetic.

Phew, where to start!! I think Aiden being back and on Em's side is wonderful. I think HE is the one who said no more to the romance though, knowing on some level he'll never compete with Jack in her heart (which is why he told her to stop about almost kissing him).
I saw sparks with Patrick too, but I do NOT trust Patrick one bit.
I wondered a little if Conrad had the accident on purpose - it's not like him to be so contrite but I'd be surprised if he didn't let Victoria in on his plan. It would seem suspicious for Em to all of a sudden be taking care of him. If I were him, I'd be suspicious of her motives.
For the first time (maybe second) since the series started, I thought Jack looked H.O.T. Majorly. When he was in the pool and laughing with Margaux, he looked like a totally different person and looked incredibly hot. Maybe as he's allowed some occasional joy in his life we'll see that more.

I can't stand Aiden and want him gone for good, pronto!!
So will Conrad be checked out by doctors who'll find the swapped meds in his system?...and maybe double-check the Huntington's diagnosis?

Conrad set up the death of Father Paul, it is so obvious!

Revenge Season 3 Episode 3 Quotes

[to Daniel{ Wow, we set a date and suddenly you care how I spend my time, my money. What's next, Daniel, who I talk to?

Emily

Some believe confession helps a guilty soul find peace, releasing us from the shame and regret of our mistakes. In the face of mortality, many feel the need to seek this closure to make things right. Because if death doesn't kill us, our demons will.
