Revenge Review: Mercy Is For The Weak

at . Comments

Is it just me or was tonight a really good night for Revenge? There were secrets and seductions and lovers quarreling. And those snakes Conrad and Victoria managed to weasel their way to the top of the Hamptons piles again.

How did they get there? Well, it certainly wasn't by playing nice. After all, "Mercy" is for the weak.

Victoria's Bold Move

When a takedown goes wrong on Revenge it goes really, really wrong. Emily went from being a confession away from having everything finished to Victoria and Conrad coming out on top again. In a matter of days, nearly all the work she's done has been undone. And now Aiden's gone rogue (again) and she only has a few weeks left to carry out her plan before Jack exposes her true identity to the world.

Let's start with the worst of the episode.

Way back in Revenge season 1, there was something about Daniel that made him seem like a plausible love interest for Emily. Now there's nothing about Emily and Daniel that makes me want them to end up together.

He's so, so horrible. As Victoria and Conrad's only child together, the slick, conniving, rotten apple didn't fall far from the Grayson family tree. And he's turning into a bit of a mysogynist to boot!

He paid off and lied to the police to cover up Conrad's accident and he gave them Emily's story for Emily after she confirmed Conrad's version of events in the hospital because he couldn't trust her? Didn't think she'd tell the same story? She was a woman?

There's nothing at all redeeming about him anymore.

Instead of letting his father take the fall and distancing himself from his parents, he decided to cover up the real reason for Father Paul's death in order to protect himself. He's just not smart enough for Emily. If he were smarter, he would've done something like she did to him. He would've used the accident to make himself relatable in order to sell more magazines.

Ugh. Daniel.

And now for all the best things about tonight.

Conrad knows he doesn't have Huntington's because shock of all shocks, the doctors did more tests after his accident. Finally, and thankfully, we can put that story to bed. Watching him crush the pills and reclaim his place at the head of the Grayson family was so classic Conrad. The man is a cock roach who will survive anything life throws at him.

Victoria's ascension to the art gallery ownership throne and using Patrick to do it was classic Victoria genius. Of course she had an end game. Victoria always has an end game. For a split second I thought she was going off the cuff in her demands that Sheila hand over the gallery, but then it clicked that Patrick's "grapevine" had been Victoria herself and the two were in cahoots to help Victoria break away from Conrad.

The misdirect at the art gallery was made possible by Nolan's solo trip to Florida to talk to Patrick's ex-wife.

After seeing Patrick shirtless at the club, Nolan decided to give computers a go again and gave us one of the best Revenge quotes of the night in the process. He discovered that Patrick was hiding a secret life, which left us to wonder if Patrick was a con man of some sort. As it turns out, well, he might be a con man. We don't know that yet.

What we do know is that Patrick is Nolan's new love interest.

And speaking of love interests, Emily's got a problem on her hands. Two problems. One for each hand.

Jack wants in on the revengenda. He wants to be part of the takedowns. He has every right as someone who has lost just as much as Emily, if not more, at the hands of the Graysons. But Emily wants to protect him from further loss. He needs to have deniability in the event this all goes south.

Aiden, however, out of jealousy after finding out that Jack knows Emily is Amanda, has gone rogue (again) and thrown Jack under the Grayson bus as the one who cut the brake lines on Conrad's car. Thanks, Aiden. Thanks a lot.

With moves like that, the writers are clearly painting Jack as the "love rhombus" victor by ruining Aiden as a possible love interest for Emily. Why would she want to be with someone who continually sabotages her plans because he thinks he knows better and/or is too jealous to think clearly?

The answer? She wouldn't. And I can't blame her.

What did you think of "Mercy?" Are you shocked that Conrad seems to have gotten away with Father Paul's death? What did you think of Victoria and Patrick's scheme? Let's discuss Nolan and Patrick!

I don't understand the hatred towards Jack! :( He is the only match for Emily. They are in love not when they were kids, but now that they are adults!
He is the only one for Emily not because they were childhood friends. That is not the reason why. Jack, being the gentle , down to earth, hardworking and sweet guy that he is... HE can balance out Emily who is a strong and aggressive woman. They belong together, so get stuck with it, Jack-haters.

I am totally for Jack and Emily. Thank you, Revenge. I'm hating on Aiden even more than Daniel.
Victoria and Conrad are so good at their roles!

I agree with kandi1212. The show's biggest problem is that Jack and Emily have absolutely NO CHEMISTRY WHATSOEVER. She has always had a ton more with Daniel and/or Aiden. But Jack? Nothing. It's really terrible that the writers are trying so desperately to make Jack the end game here. I always preferred Emily with Aiden. But I can see that Revenge is going to plummet in it's stupid endeavor to force down our throats a romantic relationship that NEITHER CHARACTER seems to even want. Ugh.

Each episode this season I get more and more sick of having Jack shoved down our throats. If they wanted him to be Emily's end game they should have written the character and the situation better from day 1. Instead of having them supposed to be end game because she was "in love" with him as a child why not build up some current reasons for the two to be "in love". Someone commented on the review saying that they understand Emily's feelings for Jack because of the traumatic events she went through but then please explain Jacks? When Fauxmanda showed up he was super into her right away because of who he thought she was. Jack didn't go through anything traumatic so he shouldn't still have feelings for the girl he knew when he was a little kid. I have never for even one second bought the two of them ending up together. I rooted for Daniel in season 1 and then Aiden season 2/3 but never Jack. He is SO. FREAKING. BORING!!!! Did anyone maybe take a second to think that what Aiden did had nothing to do with jealousy and everything to do with protecting Emily? Jack threatened to expose Emily if she didn't leave town which she told Aiden (I believe, feel free to correct me if I am wrong). Aiden could have been throwing Jack under the bus so that he would be out of Emily's way so she can finish what she started. Aiden wants her to get her revenge. Aiden and Nolan are the only two who truly understand Emily. I just hope that the writers really think about this before they make Emily end up with Jack. They wrote Aiden into this show for a reason, to be the perfect match for Emily. If there was absolutely no possibility that Emily was going to end up with him then they shouldn't have written his character because we already had Daniel as a love interest for her. All I can hope for is that the writers consider both sides of their fandom and realize that while Emily and Jack being end game may have been the original plan, it might have not played out the way they hoped and at least half of the fan base doesn't want them to end up together.

I am pro Jack and Emily, not a fan of Aiden and Emily, but Aiden could have very well done that to make sure he stays in the Grayson manor, he overheard Conrad trying to kick him out and has to get the Graysons to trust him. Also, Jack could have very well tampered w/ the brakes, he is the only one currently (and maybe Victoria), that wants Conrad dead. I don't know any other character that wants him dead. Even the promo for next week shows just clips of him asking Jack to leave, Aiden could be protecting him, trying to get him out of town letting him know he is in danger. Aiden may very well be jealous of Jack, but his main focus is to stay in Grayson manor, which to me was the only way to do so. Didn't like him throwing Jack under the bus,but it appeared to be the only way to ensure his stay at the Grayson's. Based on what I see, Aiden has no problem killing anyone, he killed Takeda, he could have just killed Jack and framed the Graysons instead of telling him to get out of town. Again, I am pro Jack not Aiden, but the writers could add twists to both Jack's and Aiden's character.

I root for Jack,I despise Aiden, and I wish Nolan would stop having boyfriends. So will the shooting at the wedding be part of a plan to fake our heroine's death? I hope the show,or the main plot, does get wrapped up this season.

Victoria's Classic Quote of the Night to Conrad: "While I adore performance art, why don't you just get on with it!" Nolan and Patrick's Kiss was hot!!

Conrad must die!

The only thing I am not liking about Revenge right now is the fact that they're trying to make me not like Aiden. Not cool writers. And I thought that Revenge would be smarter than sticking to an implausible story that they dropped in 1x01 basically. But then again Jack would be a totally useless character (as if he wasn't already) in that case.

The episode was good. I am not liking Daniel and I think he is definitely becoming more like his father. I wasn't surprised that Patrick is Nolan's new love interest but I was little shocked by their kiss at the end. I don't like how Aiden went rogue again and told the Grayson's Jack sabotaged the car. He gets jealous way to easy and I understood it with Daniel but this time he and Emily aren't even together. Can't wait till the next episode.
