Consider at least one Sherlock-related mystery to be solved:

PBS announced today that Season 3 of this beloved drama will premiere on January 19 at 10 p.m., following an episode of Downton Abbey Season 4.

Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman will reprise their roles as Sherlock and Watson, respectively, as the network will air a trio of 90-minute episodes once again for Season 3.

Sherlock Actors

"The genius Sherlock team has done it again," says Masterpiece executive producer Rebecca Eaton in a press release. "These new episodes are as wildly-imaginative and brilliantly-produced as all the others. These people are GOOD."

Sherlock Season 2 concluded with the title character seemingly leaping to his death off a rooftop. But the first Sherlock Season 3 trailer makes it rather clear: he survives.

“We love that Sherlock fans are so passionate and eager to see Season 3,” said PBS chief programmer Beth Hoppe in a statement. “The pairing of Downton Abbey and Sherlock in January offers a blockbuster night of British drama only on PBS stations.”

Sherlock Quotes

Somebody loves you! If I had to punch that face, I'd
avoid the nose and teeth too.

Irene Adler

Mrs. Hudson: It's a disgrace, sending your little brother into danger
like that! Family is all we have in the end, Mycroft Holmes!
Mycroft Holmes: Oh shut up, Mrs. Hudson!
Sherlock and John: [furious] Mycroft!
Mycroft Holmes: [long pause] Apologies.
Mrs. Hudson: Thank you.
Sherlock: Though, do indeed shut up.
