The Mentalist Review: Protect Your Dream

at . Comments

So far, The Mentalist season 6 has taunted viewers with a tense thriller of a mystery. Each week is filled with edge of your seat expectation as we're teased with more clues to the diabolical serial killer's identity.

"Wedding in Red" not only continued the trend, but added a little fun and romance into the mix. What more could you ask for?

A Walk Down the Aisle

Grace playing with Benjamin in the opening scene was quite a telling moment. It clearly showed that she was all in when it came to not only being a part of Wayne's life, but of also being a family. And her intentions when she brought up the change in CBI policy were far from subtle. There even letting agents get married. If Wayne didn't get the hint from that conversation, I'm not sure what more she could have done.

Of course Wayne tried to talk to Cho about the marriage issue and I couldn't help but laugh out loud when Cho asked him, You knock her up too? That line would have sounded horrible coming from anyone else, but with Cho's deadpan delivery I found it hysterical.

The moment Lisbon mentioned they were going to need a distraction at the wedding reception it was obvious what Wayne had in mind. And I thought it was sweet that his hands were actually shaking as he held out the ring. Even Lisbon was almost brought to tears.

My one question was about Grace's wedding dress. Did she pick that out when she was going to marry Craig or do I have that wrong? If so, isn't it a little weird to wear a dress you picked out to marry someone else?

But I'm more than willing to let that go because their private wedding ceremony was simple yet beautiful. The newlyweds couldn't have looked more in love. I thought Jane standing in the doorway was a bit odd but he appeared truly moved by his friends' happiness. It was a whole level of romance we don't normally get to see on The Mentalist.

As for the murder of the week, I really felt sorry for Larry. He was just a regular guy and no one in his family understood him. Then he ended up getting murdered for being in the wrong place at the wrong time... or maybe it was karma for trying to steal the priest's wine.

Along with Jane, we all got to know Sheriff McAllister a little bit better. In the spirit of all great mysteries, the more I found out about him, the more questions I had.

McAllister and Jane had some great chemistry. They seemed to both enjoy this game of cat and mouse and did it with a great deal of humor. I couldn't help but chuckle at the two of them debating what the murder victim might have delivered. Pizza, Mexican or ribs?

One of the most telling conversations was when McAllister found Jane out at Bella Vista. Jane mentioned how quiet the Sheriff had approached and he explained that he'd spent years hunting. Jane then asks in this The Mentalist quote...

Jane: What do you hunt?
McAllister: Anything with a face. Game's game right? | permalink

Was that simply an off the cuff response or was the mention of "a face" in reference to Red John's signature face? Hopefully the answer to that question will be revealed in the near future.

Just because McAllister got over his apparent fear of heights may have meant nothing in the scheme of things. Red John could have a fear of heights and McAllister isn't him or McAllister is the serial killer and he was toying with Patrick all along. Perhaps the fear of heights was something he made up to throw them off the trail.

With Red John, anything is possible.

And I'd be remiss if I didn't mention a couple of shipper moments for those of us hoping that Jane and Lisbon's relationship turns romantic sometime in the future. (All non-shippers feel free to skip the next paragraph.)

Who else noticed that Jane helped Lisbon on with her jacket, lifted her hair and handed her her purse as they left the CBI? Those were all simple but intimate gestures that we haven't really seen before. And I couldn't help but wonder just what Jane was thinking when he told Lisbon don't tempt me after declaring…

I swear I could marry you off in a minute. | permalink

Was he jokingly saying he'd marry her off to Ron or was there more to that comment?

Overall, this was a wonderfully fun episode that not only gave us more insight into a possible Red John suspect, but added touches of romance and lightness to the mix.

Just thought about plot twist and Wondered what if Jane isn't red John but he hypnotised red john to do all those killings and when red john is revealed Jane will just touch his shoulder and awaken him from the hypnosis. It won't happen but it would make me coral myself if it did.

@Entwife, I watched on CTV on Sunday and they didn't run a preview afterward. I thought maybe they may have in other time zones but I'm now thinking not. Usually someone would have posted it by now. @mimi, I am ever hopeful for another season because the alternative is bleak and I don't want to think about it. In a recent interview, Simon Baker said something along the lines that he is really excited about this season, it's the best yet. And in a separate interview, Robin Tunney sounded reinvigorated by the intense run up to Red John and new direction they will be taking afterwards. So if they are happy, I am happy and their positive outlook is one bit of good news in the renewal puzzle. Oh the angst that awaits us!

looks like the next epi will be terrific!! ahhhhhhhh cant wait!!

that's nice Wassem! I'd love to watch the show with other people! Creamy, it'd be nice to have a 7th season! I guess it also depends on the characters, if they want to go on with it, maybe Simon and Robin want to do sthg new.

well, seems that The Mentalist is very popular now, but not in States, well, guess it had its glory time in USA some years ago.Well let's be grateful we have a season 6, given the Sunday night time frame and all other delays on CBS, but still, if the show will at least keep its ratings the way it is, might have another chance, as Bruno stated, but well they are not sure as I think CBS announces renewals in spring?Don't know if I'm right..So after RJ is over we'll have new series regulars and new development...let's see how all these work out...hope ok

Lol definitely .... I would be very upset tho if they do not end up together. I am upset with the 7 suspects ... They should have left it without us guessing ... But I can see he didn't want us to be disappointed when he reveals red John therefore he gave us 7. I am still hoping we get a shocker and none of them are and Jane is playing a trick, I don't know exactly what I want must happen but it would be great if red John is someone else. Can't wait for next episode. We have mentalist night on Monday because of time zone it only released Monday morning here. So at night whole family, brothers sisin laws etc. get together and we watch it with pop corn lol our parents just laugh.

hi Wassem,
I certainly understand your addiction, I have seen all episodes many times too.
why are you disappointed with the suspect? BTW I read somewhere that Mashburn should come back? ohhhhhhhh wouldnt it be amazing for him to hit on Lisbon again, causing Jane to be jealous? I'd love that!

Hi Mimi I think I'm additived, I watch one episode everyday and I have watched all seasons 3 times,w I watched season 6 episode 1 6 x, I am bit upset regarding the suspects, was expecting something better but I am addicted so I have accepted and enjoyed. Ron has something to do with all of this. I am sure off it.

I think it's really bad they broadcast the epi randomly but anyway.. I know that the show is very popular in France but around me I don't know many people who are addicted like me. apart from my friend who thinks I'm nuts for sharing ideas on a forum with you hehe. she likes the show but won't go crazy trying to find out who and what and how.

hi Creamy yes I also wonder what the post RJ saga era will be like. Still, here in our countries, wether it's on the Belgian or French channel, the show is broadcast every week with two episodes from the 5th season and then one old epi( random for ex S3-6), therefore if someone who doesn't know the show decides to watch it, they'll not really follow the show and won't catch that there is more to it than the case of the week. You know that I've known TM for years and it's only last xmas that I got hooked, because one night after the regular S4 episodes, they broadcast Season 3 finale one epi after the other and I didnt understand a thing about RJ and wondered who he was etc so if you're new to the Mentalist, unless you watch it from the start OR watch cliffhanger/RJ episodes, you won't really connect to it, at least I didn't until I understood what was going on with Jane's character and the RJ saga. that's what hooked me, and of course the relationship between the characters.
