The show feels Fringe-y. And this is not necessarily a bad thing, but the build up of likenesses began to distract me. The atmosphere made me think the show's setting was the world as a result of the Fringe team correcting the timeline. The building where they found the detective and the bomb, I am positive that it's the same building that was positioned on a fault line between the parallel universes(I get that they are using the former Fringe set). The head missing its body and the mastermind and team looking for it was so Fringe-y, it was ridiculous. The recall machine in Chinatown might as well have been a sensory deprivation tank. Should I be able to make this many connections?

I didn't dislike the pilot. I know where the story and the characters stand. I just need a little more to sustain my excitement for the show.

No.
Making and excess of connections where none are to be made suggests you may have a faulty circuit.
