Castle Creator Discusses Deleted Scene, Series End Date and More

Castle creator Andrew Marlowe has cleared the air.

After showing a 15-second scene that was deleted from the end of Castle Season 4, Episode 23 - that included Rick removing Kate's shirt and lowering her into bed - at the recent Austin Film Festival, fans who weren't lucky enough to be at this event went wild.

The scene was shown as a teaching tool in a class about using editing to craft a better story.

Unfortunately, most Castle followers didn't care much for the lesson and let their voices be heard, not always in polite fashion.

They demanded to know why the scene didn't make the final cut and when they'll be able to view it.

Coffee Talking

In a recent interview, Marlowe said he wouldn't be surprised if faithful fans eventually got there wish…but they may have to wait awhile. Like, say, for the eventual Castle Complete Series DVD Collection?

“If there’s enough demand with the folks at ABC," definitely, he said.

Speaking of the complete series, if ABC grants the show a seventh season, will that be the end? The Internet grew abuzz over this possibility after some comments Marlowe made.

“What I said is that there’s an organic ending in the show and the characters will tell me when that is," he said. "I listen to the characters, and there’s going to be a point where we’ve had the best storytelling that these characters can give us.”

And when does he think that will be?

The story of Rick Castle and Kate Beckett “can take 10 to 12 years if everybody wants to," he said.

What do you think, TV Fanatics? Are you in for a Castle Season 12?!?

My wife is a Castle fanatic. She views as many shows as possible on each weekend.

End it now, and get to making a second Firefly/Serenity movie, Fillions true masterpiece.

Keep the show going. It is one of the few that a lot of us like. Always a good story line and easy to follow. Not like some other shows.

How about considering cutting out the background sound that seems to have been added with the start of the new season in Castle. It sounds to me like a loud swishing sound that is constantly present (off and on). This goes on during even a conversational scene between the main characters. I am guessing this is done to "enhance the drama" or maybe to hold the attention of those with short attention spans. In either case it drives me crazy and does nothing to help me enjoy an otherwise interesting drama.

I love this series and continue to watch every episode. That said, it's not been nearly as sharp as it was since the episode when Ryan figured out that Castle & Beckett were together. After that, the series began lagging off and has, several times, lost the spark that made it so watchable. The series was built on Castle's love for Kate but there was nothing to fall back on once they got together. Still, I'm a loyal fan and will continue to watch ... until Alexis devolves into full blown Kim Bauer 2.0 mode.

@ Jase

For those of us who don't watch whatever that is, could you please explain the "Kim Bauer 2.0 mode" comment? It sounds very interesting, but I do not understand it. Thanks.

@ Sue Ann

Sue Ann - I hope Jase doesn't mind me jumping in. Kim Bauer was the daughter of Jack Bauer, the main character on 24. Episode by episode her character became more ridiculous until it became a running joke amongst fans. Eventually she was all but written out of the series. I'm hoping Alexis never gets quite that bad but Jase's joke definitely made me laugh.

@ Christine Orlando

Well handled. Thanks, Christine!

Thank you very much, Christine. I never saw 24, so I had no idea what that precisely meant; I am pleased to find out. I am in agreement with most of the other fans on here -- I would like to see Alexis gone for a year or two. Maybe she could use the time to grow up. A nice year abroad at Oxford would do. She wanted to go there.

I would be delighted to continue to watch, as long as they continue to make the show. (Less Alexis would be nice.) I love Lanie dearly, but Perlmutter cracks me up. Arye Gross is so funny. There are still a number of movies from the Thirties and Forties which they have not milked. No reason to give up now. No one else is doing what they are doing, so there is no real competition, nor anywhere for those of us who like this style to go for our fixes.

12 SEASONS PLEEEEEEEASE. Or maybe go for a run like SVU and have 15 :)

I'm game for 12 seasons!! :p

Castle's brother and sister?
Kate's sister?

Sometimes the hardest things in life are the things most worth doing.

One day you will look back and you will realize that every experience you ever had, every seeming mistake or blind alley was actually a straight line to who you were meant to be.
