Gossip Girl Rewatch: The Handmaiden's Tale

Welcome back to New York - and welcome to Gossip Girl Vanessa Abrams!
Gossip Girl season 1 episode 6 marked another upper crust society event that Dan Humphrey would find antiquated and uncomfortable: a masked ball. But he's willing to risk that discomfort and his bond with an old friend for a certain blonde bombshell:
Serena Van Der Woodsen.
Can we discuss the fact that when Serena and Blair are talking about the masked ball in the beginning that Serena is wearing a legitimate negligee? Also it's the first appearance of Blair's ugly robe!!! One thing Gossip Girl never failed to get our tongues wagging about was the fashion.
Speaking of clothing and accessories, what shop owner just lends a diamond bracelet to a random 14-year-old girl? He said he'll just put it on one of the girls' tabs. Who wouldn't notice that? I guess this is just something about being super effing rich and having house accounts everywhere that I'll never really get.
Nothing ever really gets by Blair, though. She caught little J at the ball in the end. in fact several people including one who claimed to be in love with her, mistook Jenny for Serena. Didn't anyone notice the lack of two very prominently displayed assets? All the GG fans know that Blake Lively's boobs have a personality of their own.
The Handmaiden's Tale was definitely a fun episode. We got to see Serena get jealous of something in Dan's life for the first time: Vanessa. By the way, if a girl got wigged out nowadays like Serena did after two dates, pretty much any guy would be running thinking "stage 5 clinger!" Then again this is Serena we're talking about. Dudes don't scare easy from her.
Dan: Serena, hey.
Serena: What are you really doing here, Dan?
Dan: What am I doing here? I ran across the city, I rent a tuxedo, I stole this mask from some drunken kid only to look like Robin, I conned my way in here all to see you. I care.
Serena: Well, you didn't seem to care this morning when you were with another girl and lied about it.
I remember thinking the first time I watched this that I simultaneously felt really bad for Nate while being so irritated at Anne Archibald for having the biggest stick up her ass. Something about the uptight denial of her character always made me roll my eyes when she came onscreen.
Also loved Chuck's Scarface reference, mask for the ball, and getting hosed by Jenny Humphrey. He deserved way worse than ending up half naked on the roof after what he did to her. It's in this episode that we see Little J learn to start treading water in those shark infested waters of the UES.
