The Mentalist Preview: Is Jane Finally Catching Red John?

by at .  Updated at . Comments

On The Mentalist Season 6 Episode 5, we saw Patrick Jane get closer than ever to the identity of Red John.

As Kira Tinsley lay dying after being attacked by the elusive serial killer, she managed to tell Jane one vital piece of information: Red John has a three-dotted tattoo on his left shoulder.

So, as the preview for The Mentalist Season 6 Episode 6 tease, Jane gathers the five remaining Red John suspects to finally find out the killer's identity.

Jane & Bret Stiles

I had an early peek at tonight's installment, written by Ken Woodruff and directed by John Showalter, and here's a sneak peek at what you'll see in tonight's thrilling episode.

  • We begin with Jane setting the stage for confronting his suspects, then go back 2 days.
  • We see Stiles and his disciples during a ritual that tells us more about him and his power.
  • Jane gets help from Teresa regarding gathering the suspects together.
  • Jane realizes the suspects cannot know he knows about the tattoo.
  • There's a heartfelt moment between Jane and Teresa.
  • Jane also has his own quiet moment before commencing the evenings activities.
  • The list of five suspects is shortened after this episode.
  • As we saw in the preview, there is a big explosion but who is involved? Hmmmm...

Do you think Jane will finally get all his answers and the identity of Red John will finally come to him? Of the five suspects, who do you think is truly Red John?

The Mentalist airs Sundays at 10 p.m. on CBS following The Good Wife.

UPDATE: Due to NFL overrun, this episode of The Mentalist will now air next Sunday, November 10. Tonight will be a return.

you can find episode on many internet sites, show will be interesting after episode 8 when Red John is revealed because Van Pelt and Rigsby are leaving. The show will then take a whole new direction as there will be no Red John arc anymore.

ok first thing first PLEASE if you give spoilers, give a warning!! I have read countless of spoilers and it ruined it for me. I loved the episode although I knew what was gonna happen, I swear now I won't be watching the promos anymore as I knew everything already, or at least most of it. I was dsappointed at the beach scene, as a shipper. I don't know if Jane did mean it but he did it to get rid of her which was cruel to me in a way. For a moment there I thought RJ is not one of them. I don't want to have to wait for the next epi, it's just sher torture!

As a not-Jisbon-shipper, I was very happy with the scene. It's exactly why I don't want them to have a love story. Their relationship is perfect as it is. However, you shippers shouldn't feel bad about it. He gave her the best surprise she could have. She'd have risked her life there, with the suspects and the explosion. Jane was protecting her and told her how important she is, knowing he may end up dead.

yep you've got a point! that's most probably why he did this. I guess it's "Ive got a surprise for you" that broke my heart for her, as she expected something and then not. but I understand why he did this and it was certainly the biggest present he could offer her-her life. I can't beleive we'll have to wait another week!! so frustrating

Sorry, posted this in the wrong place...I got the impression that he was abandoning her because he didn't want her to try and stop him from killing RJ. That was always a point of contention between them and he knew she was feeding him a line of crap at the beginning about RJ deserving to die. She just said that so he wouldn't leave her out so she could be there to try and stop him. He knew it and that's why he tricked her. She didn't really mean it as was evident when she tried to talk him out of it when she called him. I'm not saying that he doesn't care about her, just that that was not the primary motivation for his ruse. And as a non-shipper, I too was pleased they didn't get too sappy.

I'm so confused, the new episode Fire and Brimstone did not air tonight! At least not in California, I gather it did in Canada. WTF? It's not on CBS's website either. Does anyone know how we can see this episode before we can't avoid spoilers? I've already run into a few, very annoying. How bizarre is it to simply NOT run a new episode of a how but still run previews of the following episode? This is nuts!

HOW many mistakes can CBS make moving one episode..first not showing it on the air..but it was on line..then they took that down..but the preview for the next real episode is still playing giving away a lot...so they should just run the episode in the first place

"The Mentalist' is on PST tonight Nov. 3. at 10 am. I totally understand the frustration the 'fans' in the other parts of the US are going though. Suggestion, place the football and basketball games on ESPN channels. I would get so upset when "CSI-Miami' was not broadcasted due to football. This time slot is the kiss of death. Why does CBS place their good shows on Sunday night ? Should a tell the Mentalist fans a 'spoiler alert ?"

One thing is sure. Since the tattoo was on only Non-Visualize members, Red John is not part of Visualize. Or maybe that's the catch...

As for who "Red John" is I'm pretty sure it is either the Sheriff (because he was in the very first episode of the series and that would be kind of cool) or Gale Bertram. If it turned out to be Brett Stiles I would be disappointed, because Malcolm McDowell is such an obvious choice for a villain. Gale Bertram, who has always seemed like a bureaucrat more worried about the CBI getting negative publicity than anything else would be a great choice as well. There needs to be some explanation of how Red John is able to manipulative so many people into becoming followers. A cult leader is an obvious candidate for Red John but I think that makes Brett Stiles too obvious. Also, I'm not sure I like this "Tiger, Tiger" conspiracy thing very much. Seems pretty cheesy and overblown to me. I hope the resolution of the mystery doesn't disappoint, but fear it might.

I love both "The Good Wife," and "The Mentalist," but I'm tired of CBS relegating two of their best shows to the garbage heap that is Sunday night. It's hard not to conclude that the network isn't all that committed to the shows. While I personally find "The Mentalist" much more formulaic than "The Good Wife," I'm very invested in finding out not only who Red John is but what will happen to Patrick when and if he is able to catch Red John. CBS isn't treating their viewers very well. Sunday is a "school night." Why not put some less important programming on Sunday nights after football. Grrrrr....

What happens if the football game runs late again next week? I guessed that they preempted the new "Red John" episode because it was starting so late, but this is ridiculous. They might as well have shown the new episode, because now their audience will expect it to be preempted again next week. It's bad enough that the showrunners have been stringing us along forever about Red John's identity. Way to p*ss people off. Football uber alles, I guess.

I agree with you, but if you don't watch football you might not know that this was a different football weekend for CBS than normal in that it was a double header and the start times for the later game were moved from 4 PM EST to 4:35 PM EST. That pushed the scheduled start of The Mentalist to 10:30 PM; but, the games ALWAYS take longer than 3 hours, which everyone, including CBS knows, so that meant everything got pushed back another half hour. 60 Minutes didn't begin until 8 PM EST. Since the ratings end at 11 PM, a new episode of The Mentalist that began at 11 PM, wouldn't have counted in the ratings (but if it started at 10:30 PM, it would). They screwed us -- but they had their reasons ...

That time slot is the kiss of death. CSI-Miami was on during this time for years before it was canceled. It is showing in Las Vegas or this time zone. I should write the ending so the sponsors do not get their $$$$$
