Happy 35th Birthday, Ian Somerhalder!

Ian Somerhalder turns 35 years old today.

And there are many reasons why we should celebrate The Vampire Diaries star, of course, from his looks to his acting to how he treats and interacts with fans.

But there's another reason why all TVD viewers should stop for a few moments today and recognize both the handsome actor and the cause closest to his heart:

Every year on December 8, Somerhalder eschews presents and asks fans for one thing: a donation to his charity in the same amount as the number of years he's been alive.
