On the heels of announcing the premiere date for Game of Thrones Season 4, HBO has come out and announced the end date for another long-running drama:
Boardwalk Empire will conclude following its upcoming fifth season.
Michael Lombardo, president of programming at HBO, praised series creator Terence Winter in making a statement regarding the decision:
"It has been an incredible honor to bring this powerful and groundbreaking series to our subscribers,” he said. “Terry Winter has created one for the ages.”
Winter then chimed in with: “We’re thrilled to get the go-ahead for a fifth season of Boardwalk Empire. After much discussion with my creative team and HBO, we’ve decided to wrap up the series after such a great run and look forward to bringing it to a powerful and exciting conclusion.”
Boardwalk Empire, which returns in the fall, isn't the only HBO series that will call it quits in 2014: True Blood Season 7 will mark the end for that drama as well.
