Alison Sweeney announced this week that she will be leaving Days of Our Lives some time in 2014.

But at least NBC has softened this blow with the following announcement: Days of Our Lives has been renewed through 2016.

“Days of Our Lives continues to be a fan favorite for the daytime audience and we are thrilled to keep it going through its 50th season,” NBC Entertainment president Jennifer Salke said in a statement, adding:

“Days has shown year-to-year increases in key female demographics and remains both relevant and fresh creatively due to the hard work of the producers, writers, cast and crew who have worked tirelessly to make Days the ratings success it is today.”

Through nearly five decade, the series has earned 232 Daytime Emmy nominations and 36 wins, including a 2013 trophy for Outstanding Daytime Drama.

It will celebrate 50 years on the air in November 2015.
