Pretty Little Liars Review: Ezra is Watching

at .  Updated at .

Tonight was the Ezra show - and I was definitely a fan. Ian Harding is still amazingly unnerving as the sinister EzrA.

Pretty Little Liars Season 4 Episode 18 let us a little deeper into Ezra's creepy stalker world. We found out some great information about how he operates, got to see Alison again and watched Spencer plunge into her usual obsessive mode. And the series managed to keep the suspense on high.

All around, it was the best episode of Pretty Little Liars Season 4.

So... Ezra is on to Spencer, and he's doing everything he can to keep Aria away from her friends. Watching him give Spencer a veiled threat ("I'd hate to see you suffer"), as well as effortlessly manipulate Aria into staying at the cabin, proves how skilled and practiced he is at controlling situations.

He definitely fits with the all-knowing ever-present A we've come to love and fear much more so than Mona ever did. That's why the first A reveal in Pretty Little Liars Season 2 Episode 25 was so disappointing. Mona seemed like a good candidate, but it all seemed a little improbable.

Now we know that Ezra has quite the technologically-advanced A lair, and he must have someone monitoring these girls. Someone has been watching and snapping pictures of them all this time, and Ezra gets all of these pictures and videos delivered straight to his computer.

Plus, he gained the liars' trust and has access to pertinent information about them. And it looks like he'll use that information to set up Spencer. If that final scene is any indication, Spencer will be accused of stealing prescription pads to fuel her addiction.

It probably would've been smarter for Spencer to speak up about her theory earlier, but her decision is pretty consistent with her character and did add a lot of tension to the episode. And clearly, Spencer seems to be developing a little drug problem.

Her investigative efforts could be described as insane, but damn if they don't get results. Spencer definitely should have put a little more trust in her friends (especially Hanna), so that she didn't have to go off the deep end with the pill-popping.

However, she did find some good evidence (like that well-placed video camera) that seems to be convincing Emily and Hanna that Ezra is worth investigating. I wonder what Ezra's next move will be.

And Alison returns again. She's become much more of a presence on the show, which has actually been a good thing. You can see her desperation to keep moving to the next safe place. Shana has clearly been scared off, and she might have been Alison's last hope.

Despite the fact that just a few weeks ago in Pretty Little Liars Season 4 Episode 16 it looked like Alison might be playing another game with her friends, tonight she was genuinely upset and scared. I think she really does want to come home, and Ezra has shown that things are definitely too dangerous for her return.

So it looks like Spencer is closing in on Ezra, and it's just about time to tell Aria.

But will Aria believe that Ezra is A?

Spencer, sloppy work leads to consequences. I'd hate to see you suffer.

Brenda: Don't haggle, Spencer. It's tacky. $50 for first-timers, repeat customers get a discount.
Spencer: Like at the hoagie shop. Do I get the tenth one free?
