The CW Renews Reign, The Originals, Supernatural, TVD and Arrow!

by at . Comments

Cal it a late Christmas present, an early Valentine's Day gift or whatever the heck you please.

But The CW has renewed five dramas for next season!

Those now guaranteed to return on the 2014-2015 schedule are:

  • The Vampire Diaries
  • Reign
  • Arrow
  • Supernatural
  • The Originals

“This season we’ve had great success with our new hit series The Originals paired with Supernatural, giving us our best Tuesday nights in years,” said CW prez Mark Pedowitz in a statement.

“The Vampire Diaries is No. 2 in its time period in the young adult demos, and with Arrow continuing to gain among young men, and Reign growing its time period, we now have strong nights on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. I’m very pleased to announce early pickups for all five series, and let our fans know they’ll have more great drama to look forward to next season.”

Does this mean it's curtains for The Carrie Diaries, Hart of Dixie, The Tomorrow People and Beauty and the Beast?

Not necessarily. But we'll need to wait until Upfronts in May for news on those dramas.

Wow what a disappointment Reign definately shouldn't have been renewed with the downhill path its on. No way it will get a season 3, season 2 will just be a waste of money.

@ chris

I have to disagree with you Chris. Reign's production & writing teams, the actors and everyone involved is setting a very high standard for television. There's plenty of story to tell and I have no doubt Reign will continue to grow its audience. Sure, it's a shame there are shows that were not picked up for early renewal (some of which I enjoy) but that has nothing to do with Reign's success.

@ Henry A. Otero

Have to agree with you completely here. Reign proved(especially in these last couple of eps) that it has rose above all prejudice and showed that it's great. Adelaide & Megan are killing it.
And if you just go on wikipedia and read the Basics about Mary's life you'll see that her real life starts after her life in France ends. PLENTY potential and place for storytelling. I just think they need some "bigger" names to attract other viewers and get rid of their prejudice.

Great actors but I agree with Frances' initial statement "Reign is quite entertaining and the quality of production is very good. However, the plot deviates substantially from history in order to make it appealing to teenage girls." It's definitely just a TV show. Nothing historic about it other then using history to kick off the initial idea of it.

Reign is quite entertaining and the quality of production is very good. However, the plot deviates substantially from history in order to make it appealing to teenage girls. The fact that it has been this well received is actually quite an accomplishment. Just because some people find the fabricated storylines too ridiculous to stomach doesn't make them prejudiced. They just have different tastes.
