Grey's Anatomy Review: All About Cristina

by at .  Updated at . Comments

It's hard to imagine Grey's Anatomy without the one and only Cristina Yang. Soon enough, though, we'll have to do just that.

Let's forget about that momentarily, however, and dive right in and discuss tonight's Cristina-centric installment.

Two Paths
With two paths in front of her, Cristina must decide which to choose.

On Grey's Anatomy Season 10 Episode 17, Cristina saved the life of a man who ultimately chose to die. Repeatedly, she asked the patient and even herself: Do you know who you are? Do you know what's happened to you? Do you want to live this way?

These are simple but also interesting questions that honestly made me stop to wonder about my own life. I love when Shonda and company can do that. I know for days to come I, too, will be addressing the same concerns and pondering my own choices in life.

Cristina had a decision to make about the path she wanted to take moving forward and whether it should be with or without Owen.

In the first scenario, when she questions the patient, he chose to die. We saw Crowen move in together, adopt a dog and even become parents. Seriously, how strange was it seeing Cristina pregnant? Twice, for that matter?! In the end, she was seen presenting a Harper Avery Award to Ross. Crazy!

In the second scenario, the patient chose to live. The main difference this time was that Cristina knew she and Owen could not be together. Their differences were just too big and they were always fighting about the same things, so she asked Meredith to help her stay away from Owen.

While he developed a drinking problem, we saw Cristina accept her fourth Harper Avery Award in a row.

Finally, in Cristina's last sliding door experience, we saw her simply just watch Owen walk alone into an elevator. I can't say that I'm entirely sure what her final decision was but I hope she figures it out ASAP. Her days are limited and I want to see her being her rock star self in the OR.

By the way, I kind of loved that we got to see so much of Meredith even if this was all about Cristina. Life with your best friend by your side just make things a bit more bearable.

Other Thoughts:

  • Cristina named her male dog Mrs. Rodriguez. Hilarious!
  • I seriously liked all of the details, such as the doctors' scrubs, their fancy bracelets, Meredith's futuristic phone, the docs' aging and much more details that were shown to illustrate passing time.
  • Next season, we will certainly be missing Cristina. Will you also be missing Ross and Leah?
  • Be sure to return next week to chime in on the Grey's Anatomy Round Table

Overall, "Do You Know?" was very different and showed Cristina at her best and worst. Of course, Sandra Oh rocked every scene and I was reminded constantly that things just aren't going to be the same without her.

So, should Crowen end up together?

The whole episode stunk, it was a total waste of time. Each scenario just
proved or showed what everyone knew anyway. I know Christine is leaving but the show would be better if she stayed and Owen left. The only way Owen can stay now is if Christina is completely out and never mentioned again. The whole research thing is crap and takes away from any deep story lines. It's completely unrealistic anyway.

I thought it was handled really well. Beautiful episode. Didn't stink at all, it was wonderfully acted and shot.

I thought it was very good as well. By the way, who says that there must be only two paths in life. There are endless possibilities in life, with never ending options. For example; Christina could have children and not go out of her mind with worry about them and maintain a focused career that includes daycare!!! There is Owen and Christina not having children and Owen not regretting not having children as people change, their priorities change. Owen can mentor fatherless boys in volunteer programs. I am not saying that they should be together, I am just saying that their are more than 2 sliding doors, there are endless doors.

This episode was a little bit confusing. I had to watch it twice, to understand it. But I enjoyed the cinematography and the way the story was told. The Meredith and Alex talking in the lounge was to get Christina thing of the "What If" moment and NOT about Alex and Jo well maybe a little about them. Because after that it was ALL about Christina and her choices and stuff. I am sad that both Ross and leah will not back next season for season 11. I will miss both their characters. :( I also missed the lack of #JOLEX moments or any future speculations on them. But I am definitely going to get the season 10 DVD of Grey's Anatomy because according to Camilla Luddington there is a extra footage of JOLEX on the DVD. So excited for that! Other than that, this episode was definitely a "filler" episode and so a little bit boring, but then again filler episodes are always boring because they just fill in extra stuff to a specific story in this case it was showing how Christina and Owen DO NOT belong together. So hopefully, the next episode looks A-MAZING, AWESOME, AND EPIC IN GREY'S ANATOMY STYLE!!!!!!

I love Christina but the episode was just a filler. Laughed at April calling her and Christina "belly buddies" when the literally bumped into each others

That was so BORING. Cristina and Owen are toxic and one of the worst couples on Grey's Ever. We learned nothing new, we've known that for years. The best thing about it was that we saw quite of Meredith even if it was Crowen centric, and the Meredith and Cristina scenes were great. Wish it was a centric episode on them.. with some big awesome case, instead the merry-go-round of Crowen we've knows for SEASONS. Kids VS career. BORING and waste of time.

Great episode, so touching. Loved seeing the alternate scenarios. Beautiful cinematography too!

I've been rewatching season 8. There is NO reason for Christina and Owen to be together. To watch how he threw her abortion back in her face and cheated on her to hurt her back makes me dislike him all over again.

After seeing the first scenario I don't that Cristina and Owen should be together.
I didn't like the second scenario either. I found it hard to believe Owen waiting 20+ years for Cristina.
I liked Meredith's futuristic phone to.
When Cristina didn't make it to the elevator I knew that was the sign that Crowen are never getting back together and she is leaving the show....

BORING.
What is going on with this show? Grey's used to have some excitement both on the personal and medical levels but this season the wheels have completely come off. This episode takes the cake as the most boring of all which is a pretty lofty achievement.
When can we see something less soapy?

This was an interesting episode!
Seeing the 2 scenarios: Christina's patient saying he wanted the breathing tube out lead her to go to Owen and saying they need to get married and then they have 2 kids but Christina is not happy.
Then the patient saying not he wanted it in so he could live and her going to Owen but telling him she just wants to be friends with benefits and him not being able to handle that and becoming an alcholic where interesting.
Then at the end the reality was her patient wanted to die and she sees Owen and looks like she was going to talk to him but then Meredith said she need her help. So we will see what happens. I do like Crowen but with her leaving I can not see them getting back together.
I also liked that with her alt realities she was able to prevent Jackson's hand injury that would have taken at least 2 years to heal.
In the near future are we really going to have clear devices such as cell phones and ipads?
No I will not miss Ross or Leah.
