Grey's Anatomy Review: All About Cristina

at .  Updated at . Comments

It's hard to imagine Grey's Anatomy without the one and only Cristina Yang. Soon enough, though, we'll have to do just that.

Let's forget about that momentarily, however, and dive right in and discuss tonight's Cristina-centric installment.

On Grey's Anatomy Season 10 Episode 17, Cristina saved the life of a man who ultimately chose to die. Repeatedly, she asked the patient and even herself: Do you know who you are? Do you know what's happened to you? Do you want to live this way?

These are simple but also interesting questions that honestly made me stop to wonder about my own life. I love when Shonda and company can do that. I know for days to come I, too, will be addressing the same concerns and pondering my own choices in life.

Cristina had a decision to make about the path she wanted to take moving forward and whether it should be with or without Owen.

In the first scenario, when she questions the patient, he chose to die. We saw Crowen move in together, adopt a dog and even become parents. Seriously, how strange was it seeing Cristina pregnant? Twice, for that matter?! In the end, she was seen presenting a Harper Avery Award to Ross. Crazy!

In the second scenario, the patient chose to live. The main difference this time was that Cristina knew she and Owen could not be together. Their differences were just too big and they were always fighting about the same things, so she asked Meredith to help her stay away from Owen.

While he developed a drinking problem, we saw Cristina accept her fourth Harper Avery Award in a row.

Finally, in Cristina's last sliding door experience, we saw her simply just watch Owen walk alone into an elevator. I can't say that I'm entirely sure what her final decision was but I hope she figures it out ASAP. Her days are limited and I want to see her being her rock star self in the OR.

By the way, I kind of loved that we got to see so much of Meredith even if this was all about Cristina. Life with your best friend by your side just make things a bit more bearable.

Other Thoughts:

  • Cristina named her male dog Mrs. Rodriguez. Hilarious!
  • I seriously liked all of the details, such as the doctors' scrubs, their fancy bracelets, Meredith's futuristic phone, the docs' aging and much more details that were shown to illustrate passing time.
  • Next season, we will certainly be missing Cristina. Will you also be missing Ross and Leah?
  • Be sure to return next week to chime in on the Grey's Anatomy Round Table

Overall, "Do You Know?" was very different and showed Cristina at her best and worst. Of course, Sandra Oh rocked every scene and I was reminded constantly that things just aren't going to be the same without her.

So, should Crowen end up together?

That was by far the most boring episode I've watched in a while. I like Christina, but a whole episode based on her and what would happen if she chose differently was sooooo boring. I hate Owen and he needs to leave with Christina. Definitely not worth watching last nights episode.

i was confused for most of this episode. glad to read your recap to clear it up for me. i love owen and cristina together!

I really liked the episode. It provided us with Cristina's POV and it gave a beautiful closure to her and Owen. Not that it's not sad that they can't be together.I shipped Cristina&Burke very hard and after he left i was sure i wouldn't accept her being paired up with anyone else, but her relationship with Owen was honest and loving and just beautiful. It just wasn't meant to be forever.

I love season 10 up until this episode. It was a filler episode, because nothing really happened except to show that Christina and Owen DO NOT belong together. I hated that they didn't show anything with Alex.
I did love watching Ross in attending scrubs as a cardio surgeon, and Jo as a pediatriac surgeon attending, and Stephanie all as attendings!! That was AWESOME!!!! So hopefully, keep my fingers crossed that Ross will be back in season 11 along with Jo and Stephanie. But I REALLY WANT TO SEE MORE OF JOLEX, THEY ARE ADORABLE TOGETHER, AND THAT IS THE ONLY REASON WHY I WATCH GREY"S ANATOMY!!!! GIVE ALEX A HAPPILY EVER AFTER!!!

@ kiera14

correction. Owen and Cristina DO belong together but their romance/love/relationship is screwed no matter which way you slice it in Shondaland. sad. very sad.

@ kiera14

The characters Ross and Leah aren't coming back next season and it's just a matter of time before Stephanie leaves too. Thank God for it. All three are useless and boring.

Ross is gone same with Leah! They are not coming back next season!

@ kiera14

I love Jolex, too!

i mourn the end of Crowen. sigh. i do. whatever it is, please don't let Cristina end up with Burke. please. yuck. when Burke comes back, it should be you know, to give Cristina this huge pep talk. he should also preferably come back married and with kids of his own. and this pep talk will be along the lines of: "Go. Be Great. i left you at the altar because i saw greatness in you and you will never be happy if we married. Go be great, be free." Cristina leaves so Owen can have a shot an amazing and full life whilst she rides off into the sunset to win a thousand Harper Averys. bittersweet. and then, end scene.

@ greyswatcher

That would be a great way to send off Yang. I could totally see it happening, too.

sigh.. i mourn the end of Crowen. please don't let Burke take her away. please don't. Burke should just come back for a pep talk, you know. and preferably be married with his own kids. and the pep talk he gives Yang will go: "Be Great. I See Greatness in You. I Saw Greatness in You and Knew I Had to Leave You that Day and i knew you would never be happy. and i loved you too much to marry you. Go. Be Great" etc. and then Cristina gets to come full circle at Seattle Grace aka Grey Sloan and ride off into the sunset so that Owen can have a shot at having an amazing and full life whilst Yang wins a thousand Harper Avery awards. end scene.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion as I am entitled to mine. Last episode was wonderful in it's own way and this episode was wonderful in it's own way. I didn't find either to be dull and both to be thought provoking. And to clarify, Burke won't be showing up until May.

Why did last episode get better ratings than this one?
And why do people think that this episode was dull? Last ep NOTHING happend. No real drama, no real love.
Everything was just so predictable and somewhat minor or even meaningless for future development.
That's were I fell asleep on this long, quiet and shallow river that was last episode. But maybe that's what people like after all.... No need to say that I thought this week's ep was genius.
It left me with a heavy weight on my heart. Beautiful doom. Love it.

@ LeBaiser

Everyone thinks differently. That's why the ratings vary from viewer to viewer. If we all thought exactly the same thing, it would be very boring and we'd have nothing to talk about here in the comments.

This episode was incredibly sad, but so good in terms of drama it brought and ofcourse Sandra Oh's acting chops! Crowen, no matter how happy they get in the moment, are not a lasting couple and this episode just delivered that.. harsh but true! Two of the lighter things from the episode: Cristina naming puppy Mrs Rodriguez and April saying to Cristina "We are Belly Buddies" - No WE ARE NOT! (hilarious!) Loved how all things changed but what didn't change was Mer and Cristina's twisted sisterhood! the core of the show .. ah what will we do without YANG?

I expected this to be an owen, christina and preston episode. It was dull, but it showed us clearly that neither can be happy if they are in seattle.
The first 1 scenario shows how christina ends up becoming the person she never wanted and how unhappy she is. the 2nd scenario shows christina going for what she wants, while owen develops a drinking problem and destroys his life.
I think this epi, will be the reason why she'll choose to leave.

Actually, I felt like I was waiting for Burke to show up every time Cristina went looking for Owen. I forgot Burke won't be showing up until May.

Me too! I did not know when Burke was going to be on so I was expecting to see him in one of her alt realities!
