The Mentalist Review: Trust Your Instincts

at .  Updated at .

A dead body may have shown up in "Grey Water," but it was the first and final scenes that left a lasting impression on The Mentalist Season 6 Episode 14.

For the last few weeks, I'd been holding my breath during every moment with Rigsby and Van Pelt, always waiting for something horrible to befall them around the next corner.

Tonight, those instincts were finally right.

My heart was pounding for Rigsby as he held his baby daughter when a gunman stalked him in his own home. Without a weapon handy, there was nothing he could do besides cower and pray. Thankfully, Grace was there and armed but even though they all made it out alive, the scene still left me shaking.

Little did I know it wouldn't be the last.

Dan Becker's murder wasn't all that thrilling and I couldn't believe Fischer pulled Jane for this case. Yes, they had multiple agents working the CBI case, but Jane was intimately involved in taking down all of those suspects.

Wouldn't Patrick Jane's unique point of view be better suited hunting a multiple murderer targeting fellow law enforcement officers? When Fischer said she was pulling him for the new case because there was nothing for him to do, I was dumbfounded.

To be honest, the murder of the week was kind of boring. Even with its fracking, oddball protestors with creepy music and hackers, it still didn't hold a candle to the search for the CBI killer.

I liked having the old team back together even if their scenes together were far too short. There was something familiar and comforting about having Rigsby and Van Pelt back on board and it made me realize how much I'm going to miss them when they are gone for good.

In classic Jane fashion, he had everyone make their choice for the guilty suspect. Rigsby's instincts were obviously correct about Hutten, just not in the way he thought. Really, the killer could be anyone on that list. I'm certainly not ruling out Tommy Volker just because he's in Federal custody. He has far too many contacts on the outside.

There's always the possibility that it's someone else entirely. At this point, it's anyone's guess.

When the black form stepped into Grace's bedroom as she slept, he almost looked like the Grim Reaper himself. It was a horrifyingly creepy moment and I can't believe they left us hanging with him simply standing over her sleeping form. Now we have to hold our breath for an entire week to find out Grace's fate.

Now it's your turn, TV Fanatics. Who do you think is targeting former CBI agents?
