Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Review: Who is the Clairvoyant?

Congrats to Skye!

She's been through quite a lot since she gave up her van for the S.H.I.E.L.D airplane. And on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 1 Episode 16, she was made an official Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. She's had her ups and downs, but she has proved her value to the team.

With the threat of the Clairvoyant out there, she was the perfect choice to analyze the profiles and lead the search for possible candidates.

While not much happened on "End of the Beginning," it was a pivotal episode and launched what appears to be a shift in the story. Deathlok was a formidable foe that so far has won each encounter with S.H.I.E.L.D. The battles were okay, but there's something missing and I can't quite figure out what it is.

Maybe it's that the battles were gun fights. The fights on Arrow are more elaborate and rely on a wider range of fighting methods, while in this episode guns and missiles were the weapons of choice. I'd like to see better fight scenes on this series.

The search for the Clairvoyant was led by the hunt for Deathlok. S.H.I.E.L.D was manipulated into finding Thomas Nash and conned into believing he was the Clairvoyant. It was a convincing set up! I fell for it. And, Ward's execution of Thomas took away their only real lead.

Skye's investigation uncovered the likely truth. The Clairvoyant is someone within S.H.I.E.L.D. There's a traitor amongst them. While the secret phone was incriminating, May appeared to be honestly confused about what was going on. Plus, she's more knowledgeable about what happened with Coulson than he is. She has no reason to want information about his post-death time. She already knows the truth.

Agent Hand appears to be involved in some regard with the Clairvoyant, but I don't think she's the actual person. We don't know much about her, but I just don't see her as the mastermind. I could be wrong, but I just don't buy it.

This has all been building towards a major shift in S.H.I.E.L.D. The final scene showed a lead-in to Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Will Director Fury make it out of the crash? Most likely, but how will the events of the movie change the television series? We'll have to wait until next week to find out.

Arnim Zola!

OMG - it all becomes clear when you see THE WINTER SOLDIER that what we've been watching is just one small piece of a huge puzzle. Now it all fits - the Clairvoyant, the drug given to Coulson & Sky, Mike Peterson. About the only thing we have left to discover is WHO Sky is (and if it can be used to their benefit ASAP). I'm just glad that we can pretty sure that our team stands a good chance of being part of the good guys. Whenever people are prevented from learning the whole truth, that's a sure bet those people are part of the "good" Nick Fury learned too late.

I think it's Blake. He put the gun on Deathlok to let the team track him to that building. Plus taking a hit naturally shifts the blame off him since he "took one for the team." But Deathlok could have easily killed him and didn't. Just enough to make it look believable.

I watched the final moments with mouth wide open!

I have already seen The Winter Soldier (it premiered last week here in Latin America) and I'm really excited to see where the show will go from there!

@ Javoff

AGREE! See the movie ASAP because the details revealed in the most recent episodes will make more sense the sooner you piece it together with the movie.

Great episode. I don't know who the clairvoyant is but I definitely don't trust agent Hand and I don't trust May right now but she seemed generally confused about what was going on. I never thought that the one guy was the clairvoyant it was to easy but the clairvoyant not being psychic and being an agent of shield is interesting and a nice twist. I can't wait till the next episode I really want to know what's going to happen next.

I agree with reviewer, the last two episodes have been unsettling. I still don't get the love of Skye the writers have tried to sell us. They are trying to make all the team members weak minded robots that can be programed to kill. May - I don't think so.

I think they will use same trick as in elementary and use the love interest of Coulson : we will encounter her in a future episode.

Since this show is quasi- linked to the movies, it could be Maria Hill or someone else we have seen in the movies but not yet the series. Just my opinion...
