The Big Bang Theory Review: The "M" Word

by at .  Updated at . Comments

Sheldon left String Theory behind, but he's still not sure what to do next on The Big Bang Theory Season 7 Episode 21.

Penny suggested that they have a Anything Can Happen Thursday to shake things up and help Sheldon find his perfect discipline. Instead of solving Sheldon's problem, their spontaneity revealed lies.

Have you ever lied to a friend to get out of spending time with them? It's not a surprise that Amy and Bernadette would feel the need to lie to have time alone.

Penny does tend to take the focus away from the others. And now that she has a creepy job, she has a reason to complain.

Penny: So, we're about to shoot this scene in the movie where the killer ape DNA is slowly taking over my body.
Leonard: Okay.
Penny: But I realize they're gluing fur everywhere, except my cleavage. So, I asked
the director why and he says, it's important to the story that my boobs be the last things to turn ape.
Leonard: It's sweet that he thinks there's a story.

I really hope we get to see clips from her movie when it's finished. That would be hilarious. Even though it's a low budget horror film, it would be awesome to see Penny get a better job out of it. She's always been mooch, so it would be an intriguing shake up for the group dynamic if she found success.

She could actually take Sheldon out for Asian Fusion instead of the other way around, though Amy may not like that. One benefit of the Anything Can Happen Thursday was we got to see a new character pairing. I enjoyed the time that Leonard and Amy shared together. It was odd, but that was a good thing.

Sheldon's a difficult person to be around, but Amy was right by recognizing his special relationship with Penny. He's more at ease with her than anyone else. More importantly, he allows her to get away with things he would never tolerate from anyone else.

Does Amy have a reason to be jealous? Perhaps. She doesn't have to worry about Sheldon and Penny being more than friends, but they share a closeness that Amy strives to have with her boyfriend. At least, Penny did try to help push Sheldon towards Amy. If only, Sheldon takes the advice of the psychic.

Oh well. That's not going to happen since Sheldon pulled out the big "M" word!

You know what this is? Yeah, and I reserve this word for those rare instances when it's truly deserved. This is malarkey!

Sheldon

Raj and Howard's experience watching the horror movie was funny too. Raj is giving his all in making his relationship with Emily work. He likes Sound of Music and she likes creepy horror flicks. That's a divide that he could easily overcome, especially when the movie turns her on!

I loved this exchange between Raj and Howard.

Howard: Oh, come on-- she could have a freezer full of ex-boyfriend's body parts and you'd still go out with her.
Raj: I do like that the ex-boyfriend's out of the picture.

There are only a few episode left in The Big Bang Theory season 7. I hope that Raj continues to date Emily through the end of the season. After being alone for so long, it's time he has a long-term relationship!

My favorite moment was when Penny and Sheldon were at the Asian Fusion restaurant. For someone with very particular food requirements, it's amazing that he went there and ate the food. Plus, it provided this hilarious line.

Sheldon: I don't understand my food. Chinese noodles with Korean barbecue ... in a taco.
Penny: It's fusion.
Sheldon: Well, my mother would lock her car doors if she had to drive through this hodgepodge of ethnicity.

Overall, "The Anything Can Happen Recurrence" was a good, funny episode. It wasn't one of the best of the season in its entirety, but it definitely had quite a few laughs. Check out more of the funny exchanges in our The Big Bang Theory quotes section. There were a lot this week.

Should Anything Can Happen Thursday be permanently reinstated?

the idea that sheldon and penny can have a romantic relationship is absolutely absurd. the shenny have not understood anything around where the show is going, in my opinion

@ Silvia

And you clearly don't grasp that very definition of absurd is Penny and Leonard's relationship - It's beyond awful!
Same goes for Amy and Sheldon, but they actually make me smile sometimes, but when it comes to Penny and Leonard is nothing - It's like watching paint dry when they're on the screen.

Jonas: I disagree with you (although I have read books or seen movies or TV shows where I liked different characters better and wanted relationships myself that didn't happen). I'm not always happy with the Penny-Leonard relationship from week to week (and I do agree the writers fall back on clichés too often for the comedy, like Leonard is a no-confidence wuss and Penny's a shallow slut/drunk); however, the original premise of the show, which was what interested me right from the start was the unlikely friendship and love and eventual sex between a wallflower nerd and a shallow fox, which (but not all the time and not enough) changes both of them, but especially the hot chick who (sometimes is actually in love but) can't go back to slutting around with dumb body builder types. That is, Penny is only even friends with any of the others because of how Leonard turned over her world and (the premise is still valid) won her love.

What you wrote is valid from season 1 to maybe season 4 - But now it's just painful to see them and they're not even remotely funny to watch.

I would have given this episode a 5 rating if it wasn't for Amy showing up in the last minute dressed a catholic school girl, that made me choke up - So I gave it a 4 becasue of the brilliant time between Sheldon and Penny in this episode. Penny and Sheldon moments is always gold and this show screwed up big time for not pairing up these two romantically - It would have been a joyful ride seeing their progression and fights on the tv screen. The second BS this season (the first what Stuart said about Penny and Leonard's relationship in the mommy observation) came from Leonard when he said that they had a honest relationship - How are these writers trying to fool anyway? Only a moron would believe what Leonard said. If this show had balls or foresight they would have had that psychic say that women that hold the key to Sheldon's dilemma was blonde or more accurate Penny - The Canon between Penny and Sheldon through the years says it all and their chemistry between them is if off the charts and they always had a special connection. Just pair up Leonard with Amy after they do a complete makeover with Amy, because Mayim Bialik is a beautiful girl when she's not dressed as Amy - Leonard would tap Amy in a New York minute, hell he's done it before with other girls.

For someone desiring that two members of different species pair up, either has a weird sense of comedy, or its plotting a conspiracy, or he has a fool hope that love prevails

So what? - Do you find Penny and Leonard's relationship to be comic, I can't remember when I laughed or smiled when they're on the screen. They both are boring as hell when they're on, but Penny is funny when she's not around Leonard. Same with Amy and Sheldon, but I actually do smiles and laugh sometimes at them.
But Amy is funnier when she's not around Sheldon, remember when she was paired up with Howard on that scavenger hunt? - She was brilliant and funny with Howard and not weird at all. All I'm saying it's time for a change and shake things up

i so wish they stop proping shamy they are not working at all and stop shoving shamy and amy down our throuts please break them up all ready. since day one sheldon never needed and woman to help with his job our help out of any rut he is in.so why dose he need one now this so dumb

When Bernie and Amy were find out, i scream "FOROBARDO!!", a word used in Taringa!, a website.
Amy is weird, no wonder why she still dating Raj, and no wonder why Raj still dating her, his balls are on fire (with strogene)
Bernie should figure out by now she will end phisically like howards mother
Sheldon should figure out his career choices with internet, that was odd
Leonard still is so innocent, why he thinks that Penny never lied to him? A drunk promiscuos blonde always lie, included little lies

Correction i mean Emily is a weird dermathologist

this episode still confirms that the relationship between Sheldon and Amy is destined to grow (Sheldon and penny will be always and only friends this is obvious!!). Sheldon must recognize his feelings for her! He can escape but at the end must admit what he feels, I think that his relationship with Amy is the most interesting of the show!
