The Tomorrow People Review: Wishes Do Come True

at .  Updated at . Comments

Jedikiah’s greatest wish came true in the final moments of The Tomorrow People Season 1 Episode 21.

Okay people, tell me I wasn’t the only one who practically stood up and cheered at the end of this episode/

Mark Pellegrino was on freaking fire in this one and seeing Jedikiah get his heart’s desire and become a paranormal was a truly amazing sight.

Buying Time

Perhaps it’s because I have never wanted to see him as a bad guy, but I don’t see this as a bad thing at all. The Founder has been wreaking havoc with all of the Tomorrow People, but he has yet to face Roger’s own brother all amped up with paranormal power.

Yeah, well, you know what? I’d rather be alive than the blueprint for somebody else’s skin, thank you very much.

Paranormal Jed might just be the thing this group needed to save them.

It wasn’t just Jedikiah’s final moments that put this episode onto my ever-growing list of favorites. How appropriate was it that John lost his powers right about the time that Jedikiah found his?

Oh, and let’s not forget, now that Jedikiah knows how to get powers, he could give John back his. Though I have a feeling it will come at a cost that John may not be willing to pay.

Have you see her eat with a fork and knife? No way I’m letting Irene cut open my noggin.

But I digress. The reason I mentioned John was because I simply adored his storyline in this episode. He proved pretty fast that, though he was powerless, he wasn’t useless. But he wouldn’t be John if he didn’t do something self-sacrificing and that moment came when he left the lair to keep Cara from protecting.

That of course led to the wonderful John/Astrid moments that a lot of us have been wishing for ever since she dug a bullet out of him. They were even more beautiful than I imagined they would be and I have to say that their connection felt so much stronger to me than his and Cara’s ever did.

Astrid, when I kiss you next time. It’s not going to be because the world is ending.

It was nice of Cara to bring Astrid to the lair, but I don’t think she realized what was really up with John and Astrid until that moment. It made me feel sorry for her for a second, but then I realized all her jealousy toward Hillary and I forgot to feel bad.

What does all this mean for next week? I’m sure I don’t know, but I really hope we’re in store for another episode like this one.

My favorite bits:

  • Stephen remembering that nice moment with Hillary.
  • Poor Jedikiah trying to explain everything that was going on and sounding more and more insane as he did it.
  • John pointing out that he was human, not useless.
  • Marla rescuing Jedikiah. She even did it with a snappy one-liner. I am liking her more and more.
  • Okay I have to admit I wasn't on board with the idea of a Human!John at first, but he kicking some major ass in this episode.
  • Irene spotting what Jedikiah was really worried about and telling him that his love was like Romeo and Juliet. Aw.
  • Dang you John, why do you insist on sacrificing yourself? #StillLoveYou
  • Roger stealing a little nookie while training Marla, and the fact that she was able to knock him on his ass after he did it.
  • Jedikiah informing Stephen that he was lurking.
  • Cara referring to Jedikiah and Irene as Igor and Dr. Frankenstein. I totally wanted to know which was which, too.
  • Cara admitting she was scared.
  • Astrid pointing out that John’s powers weren’t what made him special. I loved that she ended her speech by calling him a jerk.
  • The kiss! Whoa.
  • Stephen using a massive TK blast to take out all those guards. Double whoa.
  • John promising Astrid that the next time he kissed her, it wasn’t going to be because the world is ending. That was so hot.
  • Marla coming in and tossing people around like they were dolls.
  • Really, really, really hating that Natalie chick.
  • Stephen asking his brother to take care of their mother.
  • Cara coming to get Astrid.
  • Jedikiah… HOLY CRAP!

Are you happy Jedikiah became a paranormal?

ok John and astrid will be a fling like Stephen and Cara which has never been truly dealt with. Jed becoming a paranormal is a bad thing because he will use it for evil. Russell and this Natalie chick kill switch them both, Russell character thinking with his dick is par for the course and Cara and john have been bad leaders so has Roger , why they don't seem to know how to communicate. hillary dieng in vain and stephen not really caring was typical.. If Cara has no jealousy of john & astrid budding romance we know why. if Jed gives John his powers back what will be the story for season 2 we all know once the founder is gone .

When will evil supervillains ever learn? Their plans always have obvious flaws! - Founder
Strap unwilling victim into giant spinning doomsday machine to kill all the humans, from within his fortified top-secret evil lair.
Result: With few people left to create electricity, water, or food, infrastructure collapses and the remaining mutants die by the billions, sending civilization back to the Stone Age. - Magneto
Strap unwilling victim into giant spinning doomsday machine to turn world leaders into mutants, from atop the Statue of Liberty.
Result: Location and giant visible effect makes the doomsday machine an easy target to get shut down by the good mutants.

I was really excited about this show in the beginning but the characters have become unrecognizable. Russell losing his head over this Natalie chick...seriously turned my love for Russell's fun yet fierce attitude into a cliched, inconsiderate, bumbling idiot thinking with the wrong part of his anatomy. She was one of the driving forces of all the ingratitude shown to Roger for all he had done for the Tomorrow People before he gave up his life for them. And then to have them all turn on Roger and Stephen when they were the ones who really screwed the pooch by drinking the tracer. Now they want to blame everyone else for their poor decision making. If the show doesn't get renewed it's because of the last 3-4 episodes...the characters I came to care about very quickly turned into whining blobs of immaturity and ingratitude. Don't know if they are worth redeeming or why I should care at this point.

I really enjoy this series, but with the sudden appearance of this Natalie character, I'm really upset. She just shows up out of nowhere and is totally leading Russell astray. Why has he become so weak all of a sudden? She needs to go. I cannot stand her. The whole reason they had the kill switches put in the first place is because she wanted to make peace with the Founder. And now it's boo hoo and how can we trust Roger? WTF. It's her fault in the first place. It's so pathetic. Poor Roger, I hope he's okay. And Jedikiah has finally gotten what he wanted. Hoping he's a good guy. Yikes.

@ Scherice

Glad I'm not the only one seeing it that way...

This was an AMAZING episode. Where I live (The Netherlands) this show is nowhere to be found on the tv so I need to dowload it a day after it airs in the US but damn this episode was good! Love to see what Jedikiah is going to do with his powers, maybe he is a villain but I can't hate the man!

@ Baseface

Ditto for me. He may not entirely be good with those powers, but I just can't hate the man.

It could be a bad thing that Jedikiah is a tomorrow person

Great episode to move things along. Loved Jed finding the link between humans and tps. Why do I believe all humans will be tp by the end of the finale? And he can give John back his powers. I am in the camp that likes John/Astrid as friend but find it comes across awkward given she's a highschooler and he's 28! It came across as a teenager acting on a crush of her teacher. And felt John's comments afterwards weird given that he hadn't properly broken up with Cara. /the conversation, other than the speech about his powers not making him special, was weird and felt rushed. I don't buy John/Astrid at all and hope the finale does not forget to address some of the main questions to focus on a non-romance too late in the season without even addressing the end of a couple who has been a couple all season. I'm firmly into the John/Cara camp even if I don't like Cara.

I dont think this will be renewed.

@ Matthew

Sadly, it's one of the "Bubble shows" that may or may not get renewed. TVLine has its chances as a long shot. Also saw where Almost Human was cancelled. *sigh* Still..I have hope that the CW will see reason and get rid of some of their more yet-to-be-renewed ridiculous shows and save this one. :D On a different note.. TVFanatic.. what is up with all of these additional popups and ads? It's making the site slow to load and dare I say... annoying?

@ Whicho

I totally agree.

Great episode. I loved John and Astrids moments and their kiss was very nice and seemed so natural. I was surprised that Jedikiah became a paranormal and I'm not sure if this is good or bad. At the end he was just throwing those cars around and that didn't seem very good guyish but who knows I've had mixed feelings about him all season. I can't wait to see what happens next.

I didn't like that Russell betrayed his friends in this episode. I understand he was scared of getting his kill switch flipped but he didn't trust his friends to help him and the others and totally fell for Natalie's line of bull and did what she wanted. I loved his character but that just ruined him for me. Natalie needs to go!!!
