The Big Bang Theory Review: Let Him Go

at .  Updated at . Comments

It really happened!

Penny and Leonard are engaged and ...  Raj and Emily had sex. Both were notable events for this group of friends and worthy of celebratory cheers and hugs on The Big Bang Theory Season 7 Episode 24.

Sheldon didn't handle the news well once he realized that Leonard wasn't going to continue to live with him. He doesn't handle change well unless it's of his own making. He was desperate to change fields of study, but the university refused because his job and funding were tied to his work on string theory

The engagement and Sheldon's reaction set up for some intriguing shifts in the show's format for next season. Both will open up the stories the writers can tell. Plus, Raj and Emily are going strong, so that's another relationship to explore.

Amy took the opportunity to bring up them moving in together, but Sheldon wasn't going to have any part of that. Poor Amy. Depending what happens next with Sheldon, maybe it's time for them to take a break so she can explore other relationships. He can't even drink his Strawberry Quik milk that she made for him without complaining.

Amy: Maybe you'll love living alone.
Sheldon: I don't know. Perhaps.
Amy: And if it turns out you don't ... you and I could live together.
Sheldon: You and... Oh, sure. And while we're at it, why don't we get engaged, too? Why don't we get a little house, start a family? Enjoy our sunset years together? Do you hear yourself, woman?!
Amy: Sheldon, it was just a thought.
Sheldon: No. Here's a thought. You're not moving in, Leonard's not moving out, everything stays exactly the way it is.

Instead of dealing with his problem at work and with Leonard, Sheldon decided to run away. Leonard's concern for his friend was touching. No matter how annoying Sheldon can be, Leonard truly cares about him. Their parting was one of the most sentimental moments of the series.

The Big Bang Theory may be a comedy, but some of my favorite moments are when the characters' friendships are highlighted. Of course, the emotional scene included a funny moment, which left a smile on my face rather than tears (well, I still had those too).

Leonard: Sheldon...
Sheldon: Yes?
Leonard: I'm gonna miss you.
Sheldon: Of course you are.
Leonard: He just made that easier.

While Sheldon was having his breakdown, Howard and Bernadette went through a revolving door of nurses for his mother. They even gave Penny a try and she didn't make it through an entire day. That Mrs. Wolowitz is not easy to be around. It wasn't surprising that the always-patient Stuart was a good match for her.

It's a bummer the comic book store is gone though. The fire provided a good backdrop to showcase Sheldon's disregard for other's problems while he focused on his own. It's not likely, but perhaps on his hobo with a credit card travels he'll gain a little empathy for others.

Or, miss Amy enough to move their relationship forward. She certainly misses him as her pillow attack on Leonard demonstrated. What would you like to see happen when Sheldon returns? Any thoughts on changes for next season?

There were some very funny moments in the finale. Check them out in our The Big Bang Theory quotes section!

What should the new living arrangements be?

This is a good episode with some LOL moments. But it didn't feel like a typical finale. Although the end scene with Lenard and Sheldon brings that sense a bit. Can't wait for next season.

Penny and Lenard don't get married and they just stay engaged for a bit. At least 18 months till her brother gets outta jail. I want to see sheldon and Amy grow into a real couple. And they may go further than Lenard and penny! Strange and oddballish but it will work. Raj continues his new relationship with Emily. Howard and Bernie have a baby and his mom dies! Stewart reopened his shop and learns to be a stronger man! Maybe have a girlfriend.

I'm Sheldon on this one. Why should he have to move? He had the apartment first. Maybe Raj could move in, or Stuart. I like the idea of them owning a comic store together. I think Leonard should move into Penny's apartment and we can watch them get on each other's nerves.

they pack a lot in an half an hour wish it was an hour
i hope leonard and penny and sheldon all live togather man i wish amy would leave sheldon alone and stop hounding to some thing he dose want to and is not ready to do amy need to go away

What a complete shitty episode - the only time I laughed was when the hobbit was skyping with his mother, Christine Baranski as the hobbit mother is and always will be a solid casting. For the first time since this show aired I'm not looking forward seeing the next season and it's too bad my stupid uncompromising stand on once started I will see it through even if it kills me - The deal breaker would be that Sheldon (Jim Parsons) would never come back, but that won't happen............sadly Watching Penny the drunk and the whiny insecure hobbit playing house next season - Oh the joy and I'm inserting the F-word here.

@ Jonas

jonas i am sorry you did not like it
trust me i feel the same about shamy the way you feel about lenny i so want amy to go i am over her hounding sheldon to change and to thing he dose want to do and not ready to do
i hope you like net season

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and propose that Leonard moves in with Penny across the hall, while RAJ moves in with Sheldon. It sort of starts the cycle anew because Leonard was in a budding relationship, and now Raj is too; Sheldon's accustomed to that dynamic already so that satisfies his need for status quo, even if the people are different. Besides, Raj did move in with Sheldon temporarily (when Leonard "moved in" with Priya at Raj's apartment) and they both seemed to enjoy it, though a permanent arrangement might be a challenge--and a source of laughs for us. On a different topic, for anyone not following news about the new Fall schedule, Laurie Metcalf, who's BRILLIANT as Shelly's mother Mary Cooper, is getting her own show called "The McCarthys" about an Irish Catholic family in Boston. That means we're PROBABLY not likely to see Mary Cooper make any appearances on TBBT...unless the Wizard gives him a heart and he proposes to / marries Amy.

There were more laughs in this episode than I expected. It's always a pleasure to see Christine Baranski, and I prefer Leonard and Penny when they're on the same side of a problem, rather than bickering with one another. Sheldon is good training for parenthood. Atomic magnets, anyone?

I vote Penny moves in with Leonard and Sheldon stays put. After all, it was Sheldon's apartment originally. Leonard moved IN with him.

I really can't believe Sheldon could live alone. As narcissistic and childish as he is, he needs other people. Loved the bit at the train station where Penny kisses Sheldon's cheek, then wipes her lip gloss off his face. It was sweet and maternal.

The Big Bang Theory Season 7 Episode 24 Quotes

Raj: Boy, I'm so hungry today. I wonder why?
Howard: Because you had sex the other night?
Raj: You know what? That may be it. By the way, it isn't like riding a bike. Like, I fell off a few times.

Leonard: Penny and I have some big news.
Penny: We're engaged!
Raj: And I thought me having sex with Emily was gonna be the big news.
