CBS kept fans waiting until the final moment, but finally delivered unexpected great news today:

The Mentalist will return for a seventh season.

Not listed among the 18 renewals announced weeks ago by the network, many believed The Mentalist would be canceled following this month's Season 6 finale.

However, CBS surprised many today in confirming the Simon Baker/Robin Tunney-anchored drama will be part of the 2014-2015 schedule.

On the flip side, CBS axed five shows this morning, including first-year failures. The Crazy Ones and Intelligence.

The Mentalist Season 6 finale airs on Sunday, May 18.
