HBO to Launch Standalone Streaming Service in 2015

at .

HBO made a major announcement today:

The cable giant will start offering a standalone streaming service in 2015, enabling viewers who don't subscribe to the actual network to still have access to its programming.

Think HBO Go. Just without the need to have a subscription.

Explained HBO CEO Richard Plepler in a statement:

"It is time to remove all barriers to those who want HBO. So, in 2015, we will launch a stand-alone, over-the-top, HBO service in the United States. We will work with our current partners.

"And, we will explore models with new partners. All in, there are 80 million homes that do not have HBO and we will use all means at our disposal to go after them.”

Plepler did not specify how HBO would charge for its new Netflix-style offshoot. Will be by month? Per episode viewed?

Expect plenty more information to come out regarding this big change and this big move in the future, but for now... go ahead and rejoice!

You'll soon be able to enjoy Game of Thrones nudity without having a subscription!
