Jane the Virgin Season 1 Episode 3 Review: Chapter Three

at .  Updated at .

On Jane the Virgin Season 1 Episode 3, our hero Jane realizes that since she's already knocked up, she might as well have sex with her fiance.

But after a series of heart-racing run-ins with Rafael, disappointment from her abuela, and a rousing church hallucination, Jane doubts her decision and confesses to Michael that she's not ready to sleep with him yet. Michael counters by pushing the wedding date up - to next week.

Jane the Virgin shows no signs of slowing down, so buckle your seatbelts, people. We have some major drama (and so many feels!) to discuss.

Anyone else really glad Jane didn't give it up this early on in the show? Jane is such a unique and empowering character - and I'm glad she's decided to pop up on a CW show (take note, teens!). Jane's honest, sticks to her convictions, and isn't afraid to be who she is. It's a stark contrast to Michael, who seems to be lying every step of the way.

I'm so torn by this love triangle that's forming. Jane and Michael are so cute together:

Jane: I just find it kind of sexy when you talk all cop.
Michael: Oh yeah? I've got a 15 minute break coming up. The seats in my car lean all the way back.
Jane: I'm not having sex with you for the first time in the back seat of your car.
Michael: I was totally kidding.

But, I can't get behind the lies. I know Michael thinks he's doing it for the right reasons, but when you see Jane so honest (for the most part - I get why she's keeping her feelings for Rafael quiet: she doesn't fully understand them yet), it's frustrating to watch her in a relationship with a guy who really is only looking out for himself.

And then there's Rafael. Oh, sweet, sweet, Rafael. Yes, he has a troubled past and some of his jerk-ish ways still creep back into conversation, but then there's moments like this:

Jane: I'm sorry, I'm judge-y. You should know that about me. You may end up having a really judge-y kid.
Rafael: OK, so, what does judge-y sound like, so that I can be prepared?
Jane: You told me you don't want to be anything like your dad, which is easy enough to say, but actions are what count. So what are you doing about it?
Rafael: I hope the baby's judge-y.

Jane's heart sped up and so did mine. I mean, come on! How could Jane not have doubts about Michael? I'm interested to see how Jane handles Michael wanting to move their wedding date up. She didn't look too thrilled about it when she told Xo and Alba the news. If I'm this confused about Jane's love life, I can't imagine how she feels.

Meanwhile, Michael is getting deeper and deeper into trouble with Petra. She's bad news, Michael, you should have turned her in from the beginning. Now with Rafael suspicious about his wife, I think things are about to blow up in Michael's face.

Another secret about to blow up is Jane's dad. Xiomara and Alba can only keep that contained for so long. I love that not even Alba could resist Rogelio's charms. I mean, the guy has a signature super spicy salad dressing, so, like, I GET IT.

Jane the Virgin is spectacular at reveals, so I'm really looking forward to seeing how Jane finally discovers Rogelio is her dad (how great was her reaction to bumping into him in the lobby, by the way?). I just hope it happens soon. For a show moving pretty quickly, this is one storyline that I think needs to pick up the pace.

Guys, I'm still completely charmed by Jane the Virgin. The whimsical elements - church sing-a-longs and all, really make the show special and I'm starting to fall hard for some of these characters. Let's see what Chapter Four brings us, shall we?

Oh, I almost forgot:

  • Jane and Michael's hook-up gone wrong was hysterical. Of course Rafael would pop up on the TV at that exact moment.
  • The nursery scene was a nice touch. Poor Jane is going to be so attached to this baby, my heart is breaking in advance. Also, is Petra maybe part-human being? I can't tell.
  • Luisa is her own worst enemy. Sleeping with your step-mother who has admitted to you that she'll never leave your father? That's a bad life choice, Lu.
  • Lina admitting her first time was in a tanning bed made me laugh. We need more Lina!

Well, Virgin-ites, where do you fall in the Michael-Jane-Rafael triangle? Do you think Jane will admit to her feelings for Rafael? How long before Jane discovers Rogelio is her father? What would you use the signature super spicy salad dressing on?
