Covert Affairs Season 5 Episode 11 Review: Trigger Cut

Annie Walker in trouble? It sounds a bit familiar.
That's not a bad thing.
Covert Affairs Season 5 Episode 11 was an excellent way to open the final stretch of episodes for the season.
This is the first episode of the show I have watched since Covert Affairs Season 3. I wasn't as lost as one might expect. It wouldn't be Covert Affairs without Annie getting in trouble.
The show has moved in a new direction since I last viewed it, opting for more serialized storylines. I must say It really benefits the show. Stories spanning a longer arc are far better than short term ones. The show was essentially a procedural until this, so it keeps us on our toes waiting to find out what's coming next.
One of the main storylines right now follows Annie as she attempts to prove that Belenko is not who he says he is and that he was behind the attack in Chicago.
The conversation with Annie and Arthur before she left for Istanbul was excellent. He didn't want her to go on a revenge mission. He obviously cares for her a lot more now.
I don't want revenge. I just want to prove to everyone that Bilenko is not who he says he is and bring him in.
Annie
I enjoyed seeing Annie in a different country, kicking ass, but I'm a bit shocked she hasn't toned down the fighting and action, due to her heart disease. I don't think the writers fully thought this storyline through before rolling with it. This could really affect the integrity of the show.
If he wants to play a game of cat and mouse, it's fine. I'll play.
Annie
Eyal helped out Annie in Istanbul. He started killing as soon as he appeared on screen. I don't understand why they don't just call him a series regular -- he pops up all the time!
Annie's meeting with Belenko was tense, to say the least. I loved when Eyal found a way in and sprung into action. He and Annie make a good pairing. I really want to know what was in the bags! I'm intrigued to find out what Belenko's next move is.
The character of Sidney/Stephanie is an interesting addition to the cast. I don't fully know her story, but based on what we have seen this week, she went undercover and bedded someone to help get Russian Embassy connection. I liked her dialog. It was full of wit. I laughed out loud a few times when she spoke.
Go on, take a shower. Don't want your wife wondering where you've been.
Sidney
I don't know what to make of Ryan. I don't like that he and Annie are romantically linked. I haven't seen much of him so I can't comment much; I'll reserve my views on him until I've seen a bit more.
Annie and Auggie's friendship appears to be strained. It probably didn't help them that it was her fault that Tony died, as he lost his job because of her. As much as the medical examiner tried to make us believe otherwise, Tony was killed. We don't have confirmation yet, but it only seems obvious that there would be some sort of conspiracy surrounding his death. A character doesn't die on a spy show with alcohol poisoning!
I feel really bad for Auggie, he has now lost three agents in a short space of time. I can't help but wonder if this is also down to Belenko as well?
All things considered, the episode was exciting. The storyline appears to be running at a brisk pace and I'm very interested to find out where it will go next. I'm also digging the badass version of Annie Walker.
