Grey's Anatomy Round Table: Should Arizona Keep Quiet?

Welcome back to the Grey's Anatomy Round Table!

Grey's Anatomy Season 11 Episode 6 featured a family dinner party that didn't quite come to fruition. It gave TV Fanatics Krystal Sondel, Stacy Glanzman, Maggie Fremont and Amanda Steinmetz plenty to discuss regarding Calzona's difficult decision, some intense medical cases... and much more.

What was your favorite quote or scene from Grey’s Anatomy Season 11 Episode 6?

Krystal: There are a lot of contenders for my favorite scene of the week, but I’m going to give it to Alex talking to Jo down near the end. He’s not going anywhere, and it’s great that Alex is finally finding the love that he deserves. His character arc has been one of my favorites on the show.

Stacy: I’m going to pick one of each. My favorite quote was from Derek: “Zola needs more black people in her family because I’m running out of ways to braid her hair, and Bailey won’t show me anymore.” My favorite scene was Alex standing up for Arizona in the OR and then later telling her to stand up for herself. I love their relationship.

Maggie: "We've got this." As if I couldn't love Jackson Avery any more, he offers to go shopping for the nursery with his mother-in-law. This is heroic for two reasons: first, he volunteers to spend time with his in-law (who actually turns out to be very sweet), second, he willingly goes into a BABY STORE, which I'm pretty sure is the 5th circle of hell. What a dreamboat.

Amanda: I’m going with Krystal on this one. I loved how Alex reassured Jo. After the whole Izzie debacle, it’s nice to see Alex committed to someone again. I just wish we had more going on with the two of them this season.

Which medical case was the most interesting?

Krystal: The tumor patient, who was too busy to take care of himself and it ended up costing him his life. It was a wake up call for me, as much as it was for Bailey. I was cracking up as Bailey tried to jog. Been there. Done that.

Stacy: I think I’m going with the Army vet who was car-jacked. It may not have been the most fascinating medically, but I really liked the scene with Owen telling her that it’s okay to accept the help she needed. He’s right that she can always volunteer to help others later, but first she needs to help herself.

Maggie: The esophagus tumor, but only because I really enjoyed seeing Bailey and Ben team up on a case. They’re a lot of fun, those two. I hope we spend some more time with them as a working couple this season. Also, I’m going out for a jog, ‘cause heaven knows my HDLs and LDLs and whatever else are probably worse than Bailey’s.

Amanda: Going with the tumor as well. More so just because we got a lot of Bailey scenes this week. Always a plus in my book.

What did you think of Richard and Maggie’s conversation?

Krystal: If Richard is not her dad and just the man who made it possible for her to be alive, why is she still holding this grudge? It took time for Richard to process, and while he probably should have told her right away, now that it’s out there and she wants to know more about her Ellis, she needs to make peace with Richard. From the sound of it, that won’t be happening anytime soon.

Stacy: I’m definitely on team Richard with this one. Okay, Maggie’s upset because he wasn’t honest from the start. I get it, but he explained his reasoning and apologized. It’s a tough situation and she should forgive him. I don’t know what more she expects from him.

Maggie: I’m with Stacy. I’m a Maggie fan, but she really needs to let go of this anger towards Richard (which, let’s be real, is probably just being misdirected and he’s taking the brunt of it because he’s there). As Derek mentioned to Mags, she came here to learn about Ellis - and Richard is the perfect person to help her do that. I hope she can let him in eventually.

Amanda: Team Richard as well! I get that Maggie is upset, but there’s no point in holding a grudge. It’s just taking time away from her getting to know her birth father. It’s a crappy situation, but it’s no one’s fault but Ellis’s, and she’s not around for anyone to get mad at.

Should Arizona keep Dr. Herman’s secret?

Krystal: Professionally she shouldn’t keep this from the Board. It could be a big risk for the hospital and puts lives in danger if she starts to experience symptoms during surgery. Personally, she should keep the secret because she needs to eek out every second of OR time with Dr. Herman to learn as much as she can.

Stacy: Yes, it’s personal and I see no reason why the board needs to know at this time. It’s certainly not Arizona’s place to tell.

Maggie: This is a tough call. Arizona is on the board and has a responsibility to the hospital and its patients. Once Dr. Herman starts showing symptoms, should she really be operating? I know I wouldn’t want an impaired doctor opening up my uterus. That being said, I get Arizona’s hesitation - Dr. Herman should be the one to tell people.

Amanda: Arizona should definitely tell the board. It’s the responsible thing to do. Dr. Herman could put patients in danger if it affects her abilities to operate. However, maybe Arizona can hold off for a little while so she can continue to learn from her.

If you were planning a dinner party like McDreamy did, what would you cook? Pick three doctors you’d invite.

Krystal: Instead of dinner I’d make a bunch of killer appetizers, put out a cheese display and pair it with one (or five) of the 40 plus bottles of wine currently filling my shelves at home. I like wine. A lot. Maybe more than I like food. Who I’d invite would be a no brainer - Derek, Alex and Owen. I’d probably have a pretty jealous fiance though.

Stacy: I have a pretty awesome apricot chicken recipe, so i would make that. If I have to pick three, I’d invite Jackson, Alex, and Cristina, but I would be secretly hoping only Jackson showed up…

Maggie: I think I’d throw a ladies’ night mexican fiesta and invite the tequila queen herself, Meredith Grey, and party animals Callie and Bailey. I don’t cook, but I’ll totally make some killer margaritas. The main course would be the ultimate dance party.

Amanda: As much as I’d like to have a drunk dance party with Meredith and the other ladies, I got to go with Derek, Jackson, and Alex. I want my dreamy men in one place! Oh yeah, and we’ll have a good old fashioned barbeque.
