The Mysteries of Laura Season 1 Episode 9 Review: The Mystery of the Dysfunctional Dynasty

at .  Updated at .

We started out on The Mysteries of Laura Season 1 Episode 9 how every police procedural should start; scaring a little girl for the rest of her life.

Laura's parenting continues to amaze me. They could easily glam her up and make her this super-mom, but they have decided to portray her as a normal working mother – good job! It is not unrealistic to have Laura hire a nanny to watch the boys; while she is a full time mother she also has a full time job.

The new nanny is exactly what the boys need. She already taught them how to be decent kids and not complete nightmares. I find myself warming up to the kids every week and with this new addition the kids are going to be even more likable. Will they still have moments of being terrors? Of course! They are kids for goodness sakes.

My only complaint, in regards to Laura and Jake's parenting, is the lack of communication. I know when couples divorce the communication is not always the best, but Jake is always at the house – get it together guys!

Billy and Laura were in top form! One of the best moments was at the church; it was a perfect example as to why Billy and Laura work well together. Billy knows no matter what he says to Laura she is going to be the bossy one and take the lead. I would gladly take bible lessons from Laura any day.

Does anyone else look forward to Meredith taking down suspects? Meredith is the perfect mix of being a fashionable girly-girl, tough detective and geeky gamer. We also learned something interesting about Meredith's family – her parents were an arranged marriage. These little developments that they keep throwing us are perfect; helping us really see who these people really are.

It is clear they are going to be putting Billy and Meredith together. They have shown a strong chemistry and their sexual tension was off the charts. Yep! It is clear that they are heading in this direction,it's obvious this relationship will be kept a secret – until Max finds out of course.

Max in the field with Laura was the highlight of tonight's episode! Laura and Max have such an interesting relationship; mutual respect mixed with crazy antics. Max can play stylist every week!

Socks are fun!

The story of the week was moderately interesting. I never pegged the lawyer as the killer. I felt bad for Daniel and understood why he would not want the money going to the church that tried to pray the gay away.

We got a nice break from Jake trying to win Laura back. While I am actually behind these two crazy kids giving it another shot – I know, I know – it was better to focus on the characters and story instead of putting more focus on Jake trying to get Laura back.

What did you think of tonight's episode? Do you think they are going to put Billy and Meredith back together?
