Pretty Little Liars Season 5 Episode 18 Review: Oh, What Hard Luck Stories They All Hand Me

at .  Updated at .

This whole town is strung together with whispers.

Well it didn't take much time for a stranger to figure out how Rosewood operates! Either that or some of you viewers are right and Jonny could be Bethany's long lost brother.

Either way, his comment in Pretty Little Liars Season 5 Episode 18 was pretty darn on point!

Before we start dishing about the latest drama in Rosewood, can we pause an acknowledge that is was JUST the Christmas episode, not to mention negative temperature in Pennsylvania right now, but these girls are dressed for summer? I'm just a bit confused, but then again everything on this show is to be taken with a grain of salt.

This is Pretty Little Liars after all...

So this week we had yet another new face in the form of Leslie, an alleged old friend of Mona's. Emily was immediately shaken and suspicious, but it takes more to spook Hanna and her set of brass balls. Need I remind you that Hanna is that girl who showed up to that trailer park alone? Not to mention got out of the car when there was an empty cop car pulling her over? Oh we will get to that awesome moment in just a minute.

Hanna gave Leslie the benefit of the doubt, as long as she was upfront with her. She wasn't about to let Leslie pretend that they had a rosy friendship with Mona. But it seems that Leslie knew the score and how it really was between the girls. Despite everything over the years, she said that Mona still held the girls in a special regard.

If Leslie's visit did nothing else, it triggered some memories for Hanna and brought that Edgar Allen Poe book out. It seems that Ali didn't know all of Mona's hiding spaces. The Bethany tape seems like some crucial evidence that perhaps Spencer should hand over to her mom instead of just looking through her files.

It seems like Spencer is getting pretty tired of playing Nancy Drew. Her lack of luster for academia is downright uncharacteristic of the Spence we have grown to know and love.

I don't wanna figure it out, I just wanna know.

Spencer

Yeah dude, it's been five seasons. We all want to know already!

Honestly sometimes it seems like these girls are really at their breaking point. At first Aria was pussyfooting around Mike and then she straight up confronted him on the dock. Excuse me, but if one of my brothers was visiting my psycho ex-friend in jail you bet your ass we'd be having a CONVO about it.

Aria is getting mad, Spencer is just over it, and Hanna is fighting back. I was watching this show with a male tonight who said "why would she be getting out of the car, that's so stupid?" Realistically yeah, but my response was "no she's sick of being picked on and she's fighting back."

Holbrook is the grown up cop and should stop acting like the victim. If he was dumb enough to get involved with Ali, he's getting what he deserves. And that includes the whack from Hanna's crowbar.

As for Emily? Em's always a little more into her love life. She's the Rosewood romantic.

Emily: Ali's going on trial for murder, she's trying to take us all down with her, and I keep trying to figure out if a girl is flirting with me or not.
Caleb: Well in the middle of a war, you have to remember what you're fighting for.

I'm sure there was deeper meaning to what Caleb said. Is this an Emison hint? I don't know. To me, it was like Emily saying she's just over dealing with Ali.

Feel free to interpret the episode anyway you want in the comments and catch up anytime when you watch Pretty Little Liars online!

NOTE: Pretty Little Liars Season 5 Episode 19 will be titled "Out, Damned Spot" and air on February 10.
