iZombie Season 1 Episode 4 Review: Liv and Let Clive

at .  Updated at .

Last week we got sociopathic zombie Liv, and this week we got Kung Fu Zombie Liv.

She's certainly expanding her skills. This week on iZombie Season 1 Episode 4, Liv's recent meal of a Chinese gang member sets her on a dangerous path.

Blaine again took this episode by storm from the beginning, with spray tans and poolside champagne. Now that is a zombie who knows how to live; no pun intended.

Oh, Jackie. I made you a zombie, but I'd never make you a whore.

Blaine

I'm not sure how I feel about Blaine mooching off of Jackie so much, but I did enjoy seeing him a little less pale and dead looking. His brain dealing business seems to be off to a great start, but he's murdering innocent street kids to turn a profit. There's evil, and then there's soulless. Blaine is toeing that line right now.

I'm not giving up on him entirely – his wit is just too amazing for that – but he's on my list. Watch yourself, Blaine.

Elsewhere, Liv runs into Karin, Major's new girlfriend, and sparks fly. Paranoid sparks, thanks to her latest brain meal, send Liv on a desperate search for a new roommate for Major to keep Karin from moving in.

Have you by any chance been taking advantage of our state's liberal marijuana laws?

Evan

Ravi fits the bill, and it was great to see him hit it off with Liv's ex so quickly. We worried on the iZombie Round Table that Major would not have much reason to stick around in the narrative, but attaching him to Ravi solves that problem. As roommates, Ravi and Major are sure to establish a bond, which might not be such a great thing for Liv in the end.

Regardless, I'm loving the nerdy gamer vibe these boys are pulling off. There's nothing more attractive than a hot nerd.

Once again, the murder of the week failed to entertain, and it mostly felt distracting. Babineaux's mysterious past raised a few flags, and it was certainly nice to see his character explored a bit.

But with Liv's brother FINALLY thrown into the mix, Major and Ravi's budding friendship, and Blaine's attempts at zombie world domination, it's just difficult to get invested in a one-and-done plot every week. Besides the occasional zinger, they don't provide for all that much entertainment.

Her life is like the whorey version of that movie, Memento.

Ravi

That's the inherent problem in mixing a procedural with a character driven drama. We know the murders will be solved, so why bother to care? There are so many, much juicier, things going on in the long term.

Speaking of Liv's brother, we actually got a peek into his personality this week. It does exist!

As it turns out, Evan has a bit of a crush on Peyton, and I found myself getting bummed that she didn't appear to be in this episode. I'm guessing that a lot more hilarity will ensue when those two finally share the screen together. My first overall opinion of Evan? Not exactly relevant to this week's story, but he's still got a lot of potential!
